Desperate Barack Obama begs Democrats: Help me finish Hillary
Daily Mail ^ | 6 May 06 (London) | David Gardner

Barack Obama made an impassioned appeal to voters last night to end Hillary Clinton's dreams of another comeback in the race for the White House.

The Illinois senator told Democrat voters heading to the polls today in Indiana and North Carolina: "I need help."

With less than a month to go before the state-by-state vote ends, the Obama camp is desperate to finish off Mrs Clinton's campaign to become the Democrat's presidential nominee.

Barack Obama is desperate to beat Hillary Clinton, so much so that he is counting on support from celebrities including Tom Hanks.

Mr Obama, 46, also broke a fragile truce with the former first lady yesterday to attack her threat to "totally obliterate" Iran.

Claiming it was "the kind of cowboy diplomacy, or lack of diplomacy, we've seen out of George Bush", he also lambasted the New York senator's "sabre rattling" and her "phony ideas" on issues including health and fuel prices.

His comments came as Tom Hanks publicly pledged his support for Mr Obama, who is hoping to become America's first black president.

In a video released on his MySpace page, the 51-year-old actor joked: "As an official celebrity, I know my endorsement has just made your mind up for you."

In one clip from the short video called Beware: Celebrity Endorsement, he said: "History with a capital "H" is going to be made this November, no matter who the president-elect is.

"I want Barack Obama to be President of this country, a country that once said people with his skin colour were only three-fifths of a human being."

Mr Obama has also been endorsed by Oprah Winfrey, Bruce Springsteen and Scarlett Johansson.

Despite receiving her own support from celebrities including Barbra Streisand, Jerry Springer and Martha

Stewart, Mrs Clinton was being written off just a month ago.

But the 60-year- old swung back into contention with her emphatic victory in Pennsylvania.

She has also benefited from the continuing controversy over remarks made by Mr Obama's former minister, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Mr Wright has angered many Democrats with his claims that U.S. foreign policy was to blame for the September 11 attacks and that the government had a hand in spreading Aids to harm blacks.

The damage caused by the row was highlighted last night by a U.S.A Today/Gallup poll which showed Mrs Clinton with a 51 per cent to 44 per cent lead nationally among Democrats.

One third of primary voters said they were less likely to vote for Mr Obama because of his ties to Mr Wright.

However, a conflicting CBS/New York Times survey gave Mr Obama a 12-point lead in today's vote.

He is expected to win North Carolina, where there is a high black population.

The closer call will be in Indiana, where Mrs Clinton commands strong support among white working class voters.

"We've probably taken as many hits as anybody has in this presidential campaign," Mr Obama said yesterday.

However, the senator remains the frontrunner in the Democrat contest to tackle Republican John McCain, 71, in November's presidential election.

He leads Mrs Clinton in the popular vote, states won and the delegate count.

But Mrs Clinton has vowed to fight on, claiming she is the Democrats' best hope of winning the presidency because she has more support from the party's working class base.

...a country that once said people with his skin colour were only three-fifths of a human being.

A perfect example of the ignorance of history at work. The country never said such a thing as the 3/5 clause was strictly for purposes of apportioning congressional votes. The 3/5 clause hastened the abolition of slavery. If black Americans had been counted the same as whites, the south would have had much more political power and the abolition of slavery would have been significantly delayed.

This is, of course, a lie.

BS. Humility is not begging. Voters appreciate appeal for help.

When Hildabeast was “inevitable candidate” she got her ass handed to her.

Now she has morphed herself into gun totin, mill worker, doing shots, and pumping gas.

That’s desperation, whoring and pandering.

Slay the Witch!

I feel very confident that John McCain could beat either Osama or Hillary in the general election.

The only one I worry about John McCain beating is - John McCain.

His skin color? So, if he's half white/half black then I suppose he would be 3/10 back then?

Oh wait! I forgot he's disavowed his white half. Ok. 3/5 it is.

The distortion of the “3/5 clause” is a lie perpetrated by evil race-baiters upon ignoramuses.
