Murray Sabrin, a professor of finance, says his background should be enough to help the country if he is elected to the U.S. Senate seat.
The Bergen County Republican is seeking the party's nomination in the upcoming primary. The winner will challenge the Democrat who is victorious in their bid for the seat currently held by U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg.
"I can offer something that other people can't offer," Sabrin said during a meeting with the Gloucester County Times editorial board on Tuesday. "A broad perspective of how the world works."
Sabrin, who teaches at Ramapo College of New Jersey, said he predicted the country's current state of economy years before it culminated.
"What has happened nationally is the government has grown faster than the economy," Sabrin said. "We have these problems because the people we have in office can't say no to the constituency that wants to use the government for personal gain."

He does know how the world works. And can express himself succinctly
A marked improvement in his media persona in the last year, he’s sounding less and less like Professor Sabrin and more like Candidate Sabrin each time I read/watch his interviews. Professor Sabrin is not naturally inclined to make media friendly soundbites, asking a question on certain financial industry policies would regularly have Professor Sabrin go on a half hour detailed explanation on the subject. Even now he’s not a slick salesman type, he’s using well worn phrases like “highway robbery” instead of throwing out flashier analogies.
He is undoubtedly in the country’s field of primary candidates for Senate, one of the top five most qualified candidates to speak on financial issues, a sad state for this country as there should be 100 men and women running who understand financial policy as well as Sabrin.
I’ll be voting for him in the primary.
