At West Virginia rally, Clinton vows to fight on

At West Virginia rally, Clinton vows to fight on By David Brown TRIBUNE-REVIEW Thursday, May 8, 2008 CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Memo to those writing political obituaries for Hillary Clinton: She ain't done yet. Clinton sought to drive home that message to hundreds of cheering supporters at a rally here today, contending West Virginia will muzzle the pundits by giving her a resounding win on Tuesday over Barack Obama, whose victory Tuesday in North Carolina and strong showing in Indiana moved him closer to clinching the Democratic presidential nomination. "I know that according to the polls, I'm doing well here. But I want to do really well," Clinton said. "Some people call you swing voters, I call you hard-working Americans." She said she is best able to defeat Republican John McCain in the fall because she can carry swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and, according to most predictions, West Virginia. Noting that no one has won the presidency since 1968 without carrying the Mountain State, she said West Virginians "represent the heart and soul of the Democratic Party."

“Memo to those writing political obituaries for Hillary Clinton: She ain’t done yet.”

Yeah, just ‘cause the power hungry, mega-whore won’t quit, that means she’s still alive.

You know what — I haven’t conceeded either, and my wife and kids will vote for me, and I’ve got money in the bank. Guess that makes me a viable candidate, too.

Yeah, hillary!

You just keep on going. Fight to the finish! Never give up!

Maybe you can get in a wrestling match on the convention floor, and crush Magic Man with your cankles.

People are starting to walk away. This has gone on long enough.

My theory is that white votes for Obama is IN FACT, an anti-Hillary vote. I suppose that is inconceivable in her mind.

There are plenty of Donks who've had all of the Clintons they can stand. Many are state party people who saw their contributions vacuumed up every time the hateful pair came around.

At the end of the day...I’m betting she retires EARLY from the Senate. No way she wants to walk into those chambers with a Big “L” on her forehead...She’s simply a poor loser...not an unrelenting go getter.

Wonder what's going to happen when it comes time for her to endorse Obama to "unite" the party.

Personally, I still think she will pull something to get the nod.

I imagine there are a lot of West Virginians who weren’t pleased at Obama’s opinion of blue collar voters...

You mean like John Kerry? or Teddy Kennedy who lost out to Carter.

But how can she win the nomination? Either she and Bill can persuade the bulk of super delegates, and/or, they get Florida and Michigan delegates based on those elections to boost her delegate count. Otherwise, this contest is over.

The projections already assume that she will win big in West Virginia and Kentucky and get the bulk of thee delegates from those states. Even taking that into account, she’s still far behind.

Can the Clintons pull off a back room deal/strong arm delegates, and still unite the party behind them?

Some numbers:

Estimated Obama delegate count: -— 1848
Estimated Hillary delegate count: - 1686

That includes committed Supers.

Remaining:

West Virginia — 28
Kentucky -——— 51
Oregon -———— 52
Puerto Rico —— 55
Montana ———— 16
So. Dakota -—— 15

Total remaining 217. Estimated (based on polling proportional splits):

WVA -— Clinton 17 —— Obama 11
KY —— Clinton 33 —— Obama 18
OR —— Clinton 25 —— Obama 27
PR —— Clinton 33 —— Obama 22
MT —— Clinton 9 -—— Obama 7
SD —— Clinton 6 -—— Obama 9

Net change expected +27 Hillary. Obama will lead by 135, including presently committed supers.

There is no possible scenario for him to be less than 50 delegates ahead.

It would appear to me that her optimal strategy is to seek to persuade the DNC to fund Congressional races with enormous proportions of total funding, denying every penny of that money to Obama — all while making the occasional NY speech in his support to win him a state he already owns. The funding focus earns her IOUs from those Congress people (super delegates) for 2012, with her hoping for an Obama loss.

3rd party would be awesome, but I don’t see it happening.

If they steal if from Obama, he will likely run as an Indy, but he will have good reason.

The Clintons are scorched earth politicians. Why should that change? Makes me think there is an even bigger Obamashell about to explode.

I don't know...it's just, well, I wouldn't put anything past Clinton, Inc.

But to unite the party after...well your guess is as good as mine. Lot's of speculation on my part but I can say this for sure.

It's gonna be fun as hell to watch!!!
