WICHITA, Kansas, May 12, 2008 â Multiple sources confirm Jim Collins was shot and then run over Monday morning in the middle of a downtown Wichita street.

Happened this morning, found out from a co-worker today. I sure wish one of those witnesses was carrying, unfortunately that was not the case...

They scoped him out for a little while before this. Maybe more people will acquire the means to defend themselves after this atrocity.

They did? I was not aware. Could it have been a drug deal gone bad?

It looks premeditated to me. If you think he was a random pick that morning I can’t argue with that either though.

I lived in that town for ten years, I left in 88... it was stupidly violent then, a little Detroit on the plains. Pretty clear things are business as usual....

several civilian witnesses and citizen witnesses who stepped forward on this case and assisted us tremendously,” Stolz said. Is "civilian" now a new code word for illegal aliens? If not, then what is the difference between 'civilian witnesses' and 'citizen witnesses'?

I've lived in Wichita most of my life. I was born there.
Wichita is the site of the infamous Carr Brothers murders and sometimes out-of-control gang violence which has killed dozens in the last 20 years.
Can't forget BTK either.
The violence had SHARPLY decreased the last 5 years or so and it looked like the police may have gotten a handle on it.
I moved to the suburbs 3 years ago because of the influx of (non-English speaking) latinos in my neighborhood.
Wichita has one of the best economies in the country, Aerospace is booming here right now. Quite a few high-paying jobs, but quite a few TERRIBLE Neighborhoods. I grew up in probably one of the worst.

Sounds like those Kansas farm boys have too much time on their hands.

These guys weren't farm boys. They were inner-city thugs.
I've seen and know these types here. I am afraid to look at them when I pull up at a conveinence store and they pull in beside me.
I figure with the Conceal-Carry law, a few more permits will be issued here real soon in Kansas. The people here are watching.

Kansas is one of the seven states that I have never visited. All I know about Wichita is that it is the home of Cessna/Bombardier and even facilities for the Big Two (Airbus and Boeing). I’ve been told that it is largely a blue collar city with bad weather. Never heard anything about crime there except for the Wichita massacre.

When I think of Kansas, I think of farms and more farms and Dorothy and Toto, it’s hard to fathom Wichita comes anywhere close to someplace like a Detroit, wonder how that happened to a city in Kansas, but I’ll take your word for it and avoid ever visiting that place.
