Edwards To Endorse Obama

May 14, 2008 5:04 PM

ABC News' Kate Snow, Raelyn Johnson and Rick Klein Report: Former Sen. John Edwards is endorsing Sen. Barack Obama's presidential candidate Wednesday evening, in a dramatic attempt by the Obama campaign to answer concerns regarding Obama's appeal to working-class voters, several senior Democratic sources tell ABC News.

Edwards, who ran for president on a platform of eradicating poverty, plans to appear alongside Obama in Grand Rapids, Mich., Wednesday evening. The event comes one day after Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton defeated Obama by 41 points in the West Virginia primary, and Edwards' endorsement will give Obama a key establishment stamp of approval as he attempts to close out the nominating process.

Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, have remained studiously neutral since the Edwards campaign came to a close Jan. 30. Edwards on Sunday called Obama "the likely nominee," but made clear that his statement reflected a judgment about the state of the race, not necessarily a personal preference.

Was there ever any doubt that Elizabeth Edwards wife would back the DUMoveonKos candidate?

The Democrat Breck girl is trolling for the VP slot. Obama needs someone to help him with older white woman vote, Edwards is probably to feminine to get him much of that vote.

What a “profile in courage.” Wait until Barry has it all but clinched, and then endorse him. If Hillary somehow finagles the nomination (stranger things have happened) she is going to massacre these fools.

“studiously neutral”

What an odd phrase.

Except for the tobies who work on his plantation, what is Edwards’ connection to “working class voters.”

Ye experts...Edwards got some percent of the WV vote last night. Did he get delegates from it, or are they just unofficial or something, because he’s out of the race?

Well, Edwards has 20+ pledged delegates to the convention. Odds are most will now endorse Obama, since their first choice candidate is endorsing him. That makes Hillary’s job of getting delegates that much tougher.

No delegates unless a 15% threshold is met.

The One-Term Senator and 2-Time Loser Endorsement is hard to come by.
