How to get more conservatives into Congress(Vanity)
(Vanity) | 05/16/2008 | ChiefJayStrongbow

Posted on 05/16/2008 7:46:47 AM PDT by ChiefJayStrongbow

The conservative Republicans in Congress are massively outnumbered by liberal Republicans and ultra-liberal Democrats. And the liberal policies are ruining are nation.

We need to get more conservatives in office (w/o regard to party affiliation), and to accomplish this, we should turn weaknesses in the current system into a strength.

The weaknesses in the current system are:

1) fewer people vote in the primaries

2) most of the voting public is unfamiliar with the candidates and their stances and they vote strictly on party lines in the general election

The strategy would be this:

1) Re-register as Democrats for the Democratic primaries

2) Put up candidates in the Democratic primaries whose real idealogy is ultra-conservative

3) vote for the ultra conservative Democrat in the primary

4) In the general election, you would now have an ultra-conservative running against a (hopefully somewhat conservative) Republican

We’d need to swamp the liberals in the primaries. Can you get election-time levels of conservatives to vote in primary-time ‘rat primaries? I’d think not.

it’s hard enough to get conservatives to vote in the Republican primary. in the dem one it’s almost a lost cause. I like the idea but I think the energy is better spent recruiting conservative candidates to run as Republicans.

Don’t agree. Even the conservative dems in Congress will vote with the vile Pelosi most of the time. I believe that Saros and ilk are targeting all conservative Republicans with ad hominem arguments that will appeal to most people. There’s going to be a wholesale congressional turnover unless we realize what’s happening and support the Republican on the ticket.

This is as hard as finding ultra-conservatives in the Republican party!

The first thing you’ve got to do is to get more conservatives to run. The whole Washington thing is the last thing any self-respecting conservative wants.

I’d like a list of all the RINO’s currently in Congress.

There are some legitimate conservatives running for Congress on the GOP side in tight races and we should raise funds for them, from anywhere in the nation. Hijacking a Dem primary won’t work as far more liberal Dems will vote in it than conservatives. One race to fuind is FL-22 where Lt Col Allen West has a real shot against Ron Klein. FL-23’s Marion Thorpe is also deserving of attention, although he doesn’t have a 50-50 shot like West.

What self-respecting conservative whose parents are married could lower themselves to run as a democrat regardless of reason? I could not even bring myself to consider voting democrat.

Solution is to promote real conservatives to run for office and to revamp our primary systems to be closed and set up a system where the states that get to go first are the ones with the highest Republican turnout per capita in the last general election. This will cut out the RINO’s states like NH and other liberal states from screwing up our primaries like they did this year. This allows the majority of voting Republicans to pick their field of candidates and not some isolated area with only a less than 1% of voting base having such a string say.

Only give money to specific candidates and not the party until the party corrects itself.

First thing to do is find some Conservatives willing to run for office. Good luck.

It is looking more and more that conservatives are becoming swept under the rug of politics. This next election will be between liberals and moderate liberals. It’s no longer about Big Ideas but about how nice we can play and how many goodies can we afford to give you from what’s left of the USA.

The swing of the pendulum is so far to the left now that we (conservatives) will be stuck just watching it swing away.

The good part is that when something swings so far to one side, it swiftly comes back. What we need to do is to be ready for it. Possibly this may mean dumping the Republican party, none of whose elected leaders have cojones.

Rush is right: we need to proclaim loudly what we stand for, and we need to understand that name-calling will not kill us; it’s just a cheap tactic that has been effective against our elected wimps. We need to train our leaders NOT to fear being called racist bigot homophobes, but to laugh and throw the ball back into the court of the other side.

The problem is not about elections, it is about not enough conservatives in the country.

Most Americans today do not want to grow up. They WANT a nanny state to protect them from any inconvenience while still feeling (sick!) independent and out from under their parents.

We need to take back our schools!

Who in their right mind would want to get into politics? It is for power hungry, ego driven, elitists. There are very few decent people from either party that are in politics.

A comprehensive list of all of these candidates would be great to distribute on this site on a daily basis. I would DEFINITELY contribute.

Thoughts?

I know you are trying to solve the problem and I believe you are series, but in all honesty, do you think you could get everyone to go along with it?

I mean; rilly, we can't even get FReepers to agree, so how on earth can we get the general populace of Republican voters to throw in with us?

There's the fatal flaw.

"The weaknesses in the current system are:

You left out the most important elements of consideration. That element is how the candidate will promise to redistribute other people's assets and services to benefit them, and how the candidate will restrict the activities of others in a way the voter prefers. Conservative values of Freedom and individual responsibility are not valued by voters in general, only vague perceptions of those things are.

You mean well, but it’s already too late for U.S. conservatism. Sometime after January ‘09, the super-majority leftist Congress along with the leftist POTUS will fully enact both the Fairness Doctrine, which will officially end free speech forever (as well as end the existence of all conservative sources, including but not limited to ending the existence of Free Republic and ending the existence of all of conservative talk radio), and, along with fully implementing amnesty for illegal immigrants “to the max”, illegal immigrants throughout the U.S. will also be legally allowed to vote in all future U.S. elections. Illegals here will vote in the super-majority for far leftist politicians at every political level, and the U.S. will truly be turned into a third world socialistic country for the long-term. “U.S. conservatism”, after all of these things that I have mentioned, will truly cease to exist at some point in the future. I truly want to be proven wrong about all of this!

"I think the energy is better spent recruiting conservative candidates to run as Republicans."

Didn't we just try this?

And didn't a liberal Rhino take nearly all the primary votes?

At least that's what I think I saw happen.

We had the most conservative candidate seen in decades run out of town on a rail, as I recall.

The problem isn't necessarily a lack of conservative candidates, but rather a lack of conservative voters.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a conservative politician. Liberal politicians do not exist either. If any do exist, they are rare and have no pull anyway.

So, trying to get conservatives in congress is an exercise in futility. You will get a bunch of people who claim to be conservative, and will throw you a bone or two, but will vote in what they perceive as their own best interest most of the time.

Our interests would be better served trying to make it so it is not in the politician's interest to vote against us.

A scared politician, is a loyal politician.

We have one in our state, a new guy, who talks like a conservative, but he's just as ignorant as the liberal he's trying to replace.
