As Clinton's candidacy fades, supporters' hope for equality fades with it
The Buffalo News ^ | May 18, 2008 | Jerry Zremski

As Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton faded from Democratic presidential favorite to runner-up, Lynn Z. Tulumello and countless other women from coast to coast looked on, aching with a disappointment far greater than the one that comes with losing.

“I don’t want us to have this chance and for it to end with women looking at their daughters and saying, ‘If I had had a boy, he could have done anything,’ ” said Tulumello, a 47-year-old South Buffalo resident with two grown daughters. “I’m sure Hillary feels the same way.”

No doubt about it: Many women feel the same way.

As the first woman with a serious chance at the presidency has fallen behind a younger, less-experienced male candidate, many of her female supporters see not a failed candidacy, but a lost chance for women to solidify their place as equal players in U.S. society.

Some even say they see parallels between Clinton’s fate and their own, recalling times when they fell victim to the sexism that they believe has haunted and hurt the Clinton campaign.

In interviews and on the Internet, they’re making it known that they’re angry — and some say they will take out their anger on the man who stood between Clinton and the White House: Sen. Barack Obama.

“If Obama is the nominee, I’m going to switch my registration to independent,” said Deborah Gilels, a media consultant in Los Angeles. “I’ll vote for John McCain.”

Political scientists say voters like Gilels are an important part of Democratic primary voters who, in exit polls, say they will vote for McCain, the Republican candidate, or not vote at all in the fall.

Interesting, I never thought of Hillary as a woman. But I guess behind every lousy man is (depending on what the meaning of is, is) a lousy woman. I don't know why women would identify with Hillary but if it helps McCain - who cares?

Hillary is evil, and without a doubt she is very dangerous.

That said, I will take her any day over Obama.

Have you been reading the latest posts about Obama's beliefs about Israel? He called them a "sore" in the Middle East!!!!

At least Hillary is willing to "obliterate" Iran.

Alas, if Hillary goes down, American women will have to take up wearing those FLDS outfits and hairstyles...

By the way, has anyone actually seen any nineteenth-century photographs featuring those do’s?

...FOOL! Hillary wants to be President/Czar/Queen/Dictator/Despot! She wants to tax the s%^t out of you! She wants you to be dependant on her for your health! She wants to limit your free speech and your right to bear arms.
STUPID A@@! This has NOTHING to do with “women forging forward” in our society. It’s about an evil, serpeant named Hillary Rodham Clinton who’ll stop at nothing to control you, your family and your country! Idiot!

‘If I had had a boy, he could have done anything,’

Gag me! I see women get promotions over men ALL the time, in fact, nearly all the top posts where I work are held by women now whereas just a few years ago they were held by men.

Get over it ladies, Hillary is an extremely poor choice as the first woman President, she is a proven liar and absolutely unscrupulous in every way imaginable. However, the real reason she isn't going to get the dem nod is race trumps gender right now in the mighty world of identity politics. Barack is just too cool to pass up for the all the nutjobs that would have voted for Hill.

Just so whiney Lynn Z. Tulumello doesn't ever have the chance to say "if I'd only had a boy he could have ended up as a President...like Barack Obama".

Alas, if Hillary goes down...

Ahem... the words, "Hillary" and "goes down" should not be used in the same sentence.

What the hell are these silly bit**es talking about? My wife (age 60) is a senior Boeing-747 captain. I think that qualifies for “equal player” status.

Sorry, ladies, the Hillabeast team blew it fair and square - they could have gone after the Rev. Wright thing instead of leaking their petty whines about him. The Chicago papers broke it first; all his tapes were available on the church’s website . You had your chance and blew it. Get over it.

Either males are vastly superior to females or women like this are just plain, all-around losers.

“If this election is about four white men, there could be some backlash or residual anger played out,” said Kathleen A. Dolan, a political scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. “It would tell women that they are the new African- Americans of the Democratic Party

What is this idiot "political scientist" talking about? Obama is "white" all of a sudden? News to me, but then I don't think like a female college perfesser.

What this person doesn’t realize is that women can be ANYTHING THEY WANT. No one is stopping them. hillleree is an attorney, a wife, mother, first lady, author, senator and now presidential candidate. If THAT isn’t accomplishing anything then I don’t know what is.

hillereee applied for a job she couldn’t do. Plain and simple. She applied and she lost. She said in her own words to think of this as a Hiring Decision. Well, that’s obviously what people have done.

As for women thinking they can’t tell their daughters anything positive then that’s THEIR problem. I would venture to say lots of daughters will be successful over their lives IN SPITE of the feminists and hillleree and people who think in such negative terms.

It’s ALSO called choice. Didn’t the feminists coin that word? CHOICE THIS AND CHOICE THAT? Well, it’s obvious the choice was made by a LOT of people that Obama is their choice. It’s the American way. We choose whom we want to vote for. hillllereee lost. Plain and simple. Did these women think it was HERS just because she wanted it? Did these women think it was HERS just because she was the first woman to run? They are dellusional if they did. I would vote for a woman in a heartbeat but NOT because she is a woman. That’s stupid. I would vote for a woman in a heartbeat if she was the character, dignity and intelligence of a Margaret Thatcher or Jeanne Kirkpatrcick. Sorry ladies...hilllereee doesn’t hold a candle to either one of them.
Thinking it belongs to HER just because she is a woman is downright silly. You vote for someone because you believe in what they say and do and what they say they can do NOT because of their race, gender or religion.
