Obama backs off from pledge to talk with Iran (Did he LIE? Nooooooo...)

Obama backs off from pledge to talk with Iran
Suzanne Goldenberg in Washington
The Guardian, Thursday May 22 2008

Barack Obama has begun to edge away from his offer to pursue talks with Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after being hammered by Republicans as an "appeaser".

Now on the cusp of securing the Democratic nomination, Obama yesterday continued to attack John McCain, his likely Republican opponent in November, over his hawkish foreign policy.

"He has spent his last week describing his foreign policy as who he won't talk to," Obama told a rally in Florida yesterday.

After Tuesday's primaries, in which Obama lost badly to Hillary Clinton in Kentucky but won well in Oregon, he is now just 65 delegates away from the Democratic nomination.

But with the November election in his sights, Obama backed away from his promise last year to meet Ahmadinejad without preconditions during his first year in the White House.

His campaign has stopped mentioning Ahmadinejad by name, and noting that there must be "preparations" for such an encounter.

"He wants to talk to the Iranian leadership," Bill Richardson, the New Mexico governor and Obama supporter told Fox television yesterday. "But he wants diplomatic preparation before doing that."

On Tuesday, Obama's foreign policy adviser, Susan Rice, told CNN that he did not necessarily mean he would meet Ahmadinejad when he offered to open talks with Iran. "He hasn't named who that leader will be," she said. "It may, in fact be that by the middle of next year, Ahmadinejad is long gone."

**SNIP**

Obama's three-day tour of Florida followed Tuesday's primaries.

He stands for change and hope.

Does that mean he's changing and hoping?

Now, which day did he “back down?”

I think I have heard him state that he would talk with them and that he wouldn’t talk with them(and that he has never said such a thing) multiple times this week.

Okay folks. I’m starting here with something significant on Obama’s red ties throughout his life.

Go to www.usasurvival.org and read the two reports on communism in Hawaii and Chicago which include people who have had direct influence on Obama throughout his life.

It will explain a lot about Obama’s strange friends (Young, Palmer, Ayers/Dohrn, Davis, etc). and why his programs have a Marxist tinge to them.

Read for yourself and then make your own judgments on the value of these reports.

“He hasn’t named who that leader will be,” she said. “It may, in fact be that by the middle of next year, Ahmadinejad is long gone.”

And just HOW does he think that “may” come about - by magic??? He gets lamer by the day - is the public seeing this yet?

[emphasis added]

from CNN: Clinton, Obama in war of words over 'rogue leaders'
July 25, 2007
The sparring began Monday at the CNN/YouTube debate, in which a viewer asked candidates if they would be willing to meet with leaders of Iran, Syria, Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea -- whom the United States has called rogue leaders.

Obama said he would, adding "it is a disgrace that we have not spoken to them." He added: "The notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them -- which has been the guiding diplomatic principle of this administration -- is ridiculous."

from NY Times: Obama Envisions New Iran Approach
November 2, 2007
Making clear that he planned to talk to Iran without preconditions, Mr. Obama emphasized further that “changes in behavior” by Iran could possibly be rewarded with membership in the World Trade Organization, other economic benefits and security guarantees.

“We are willing to talk about certain assurances in the context of them showing some good faith,” he said in the interview at his campaign headquarters here. “I think it is important for us to send a signal that we are not hellbent on regime change, just for the sake of regime change, but expect changes in behavior. And there are both carrots and there are sticks available to them for those changes in behavior.”

Obama should learn to google. What is said is there, regardless of how much spin and denial he now gives.

“He hasn’t named who that leader will be,” she said. “It may, in fact be that by the middle of next year, Ahmadinejad is long gone.”

The clips I’ve been seeing the last coupla days are of two different speeches, one in which he said Iran was small, militarily weak, relatively insignificant and not a serious threat, vs. a quite recent one in which he sternly stated that “Iran is a very serious threat”.

Puleeeeez.

Republicans should just shut up until the Democrat convention. Let Obama keep saying stupid things about foreign policy. Then, at the right time, let go with all barrels.

By letting this Bambi "back off" this early in the race, his stupid statements will be forgotten by November. "Old news..."

Oh...something is up for sure. The scoop is that these two are totally inexperienced in FP matters and make jackasses out of themselves whenever they speak.
I say..”Hand that big-eared goon the microphone, please!”.

“Obama said he would, adding “it is a disgrace that we have not spoken to them.” (from a posting further down)

I get so disgusted hearing this (ridiculous) attack repeated ad nauseum by the Dems/BHO (and most people don’t read or learn enough to know differently).

Our country HAS, for a long time, been speaking to Iran (and most other rogue nations), through proper channels, at appropriate levels.

So please tell me - are the (hateful) libs really THAT stupid, or are they just hoping the public is???

Well, that makes all the difference.

Obama figures the mullahs will have a change of heart and the next guy they put in power will only want to kill 90 of the jews.

“First Pelosi reversed herself and now Obama. Something is up, and they have both been briefed.”

I dunno - just saw Pelosi doing another ridiculous press conference last night on cspan about their “productive” visits in the middle east, wielding her imagined power. As for BHO - he’s lightning-fast to adapt to the climate as needed.

I wish she’d reverse herself out of existence.
