Group wants Wi-Fi banned from public buildings

Group wants Wi-Fi banned from public buildings

A group in Santa Fe says the city is discriminating against them because they say that they're allergic to the wireless Internet signal. And now they want Wi-Fi banned from public buildings.

Arthur Firstenberg says he is highly sensitive to certain types of electric fields, including wireless Internet and cell phones.

"I get chest pain and it doesn't go away right away," he said.

Firstenberg and dozens of other electro-sensitive people in Santa Fe claim that putting up Wi-Fi in public places is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The city attorney is now checking to see if putting up Wi-Fi could be considered discrimination.

But City Councilor Ron Trujillo says the areas are already saturated with wireless Internet.

"It's not 1692, it's 2008. Santa Fe needs to embrace this technology, it's not going away," Trujillo said.

The city attorney hopes to have a legal recommendation by the end of the month.

Hobbs&Warren already has a Standard Legal Form for this sort of thing.

It's called a "Petition for Commitment".

Perhaps Arthur gets chest pains because he is a whiny, self-obsessed hypochondriac who suffers from paranoid delusions and an irrational fear of technology that exasperates a yet undiagnosed stress disorder. I understand that Paxel, Prozac and other such pharmaceuticals can help :),

I say go forward with the Wi-Fi, send Arthur a big box of Reynolds Wrap with instructions on how to make some spiffy hats that not only block out electric fields from the internet and cell phones but also CIA mind probes and may even protect him from alien abduction, order him to stay away from Starbuck and other internet cafes and give him some referrals to some qualified mental health professionals.

And I doubt that moving to the country will solve his problems what with all the satellites circling the Earth and beaming back signals not to mention the Earth’s natural electromagnetic fields and the effects of solar flares. And what does this guy do during a thunder storm? Hide under his bed?

Personally I’m allergic to stupid people. Can I sue under the Americans with Disabilities Act to force them to stay far away from me?

"We are indeed in the End Times. The tornadoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis are nothing compared to the total collapse of common sense in humans."

One could call it lack of discernment whereby many will be deceived...

The ignition points on an automobiles, electric shavers, microwave ovens, electric transmission lines, radar systems, and an endless list of items that run capitalistic system put out electromagnetic radiation.

Next these people will ban dogs because they believe dogs send out psychic energy that makes them want to kill people.

No. I haven't wondered about it a bit.

The whole peanut butter thing is an attempt by people who hate the United States to tie us in knots. I don't doubt that one in ten thousand is seriously allergic to peanuts. But that one had to adjust his/her life for the other 9999 of us. Now we have to adjust it for him/her.

Sorry, I don't buy that he HAS to live in a city.

I don't buy that he has a real physical disease.

There is an attorney somewhere willing to take up your cause for the right price and good publicity I'm sure.

I and my family and all my friends are allergic to these kind of people. I demand that they be kept at least 500 feet from me, all my friends, and all public buildings.

Top that, electro-sensitive man.

Maybe it's like that, but I think the peanut thing and the Wi-fi thing are different. These restrict the freedom of normal people. Having different sized currency or curbs that accommodate wheel chairs do not.
