A woman president in the White House will be nothing like Hillary Clinton
Telegraph UK ^ | 25 May 2005 | Camille Paglia

Posted on 05/24/2008 6:09:41 PM PDT by shrinkermd

Right now, Hillary is in Godzilla mode, refusing to accept Barack Obama's looming nomination and threatening to tie the Democratic party in legal knots until the August convention and beyond. Those who think she will withdraw gracefully in a few weeks are living in cloud cuckoo land. The Clintons are ruthless scrappers who will lock their bulldog teeth in any bloody towel.

In her raw ambition and stubborn, grinding energy, Hillary will certainly cast a long shadow on young women aspiring to high office. She is both inspiring role model and cringe-making bad example - a feminist who never found a way to succeed without her husband's connections, advice, and intervention.

Bill Clinton may have masterminded Hillary's runs for the Senate and for the Democratic nomination, but he has been a gross liability in recent months, as he has co-opted the hustings to maunder on about himself or to inject divisive racial overtones into the debate. The next major female presidential candidate will be well advised to stuff any errant husband into a rucksack and chuck him down a laundry chute.

If they are to be truly equal, women must fight their own fights and not rely on a borrowed spotlight. Hillary has tried to have it both ways: to batten on her husband's nostalgic popularity while simultaneously claiming to be a victim of sexism. Well, which is it? Are men convenient sugar daddies or condescending oppressors?

Not sure I agree with the enjoyment of the striving part. I mean where is the enjoyment of striving when you go on the air and proclaim (paraphrasing here) “WHEN I am nominated...”? Similarity to the enjoyment of chasing down chicks as opposed to actually landing one? Thrill of the hunt sort of thing? Inquiring minds need to know. sarc tag off. Freegards.

I’m seriously concerned that we’re going to end up with this guy.

You needn't be. The democrats are soiling each other as they fight for the nomination of one or the other.

If Obama gets the nomination, he will spending all of his time trying to dig himself out from under the giant pile of schmidt that the Republican machine will drop on him. It hasn't been needed yet.

That he is an owned yutz will be apparent to all.

If Hillary gets it, she will have not only screwed Obaba, but herself and her party as well.

Popcorn time!

I believe the entirety of Paglias article probably proves your point and I have always believed the same. the US voters are not ready to elect an affirmative action president...Female, black or anything else..

Camille Paglia isn't a Brit. She's a professor of art in Philadelphia. Also a professed lesbian, a committed liberal, yet a Clinton-hater and a well above average writer.

I enjoy her writing even when I don't agree with what she is saying. She sure is skilled.

“THE DEMS HAVE NO CANDIDATE!!”

Unfortunately, neither do the Republicans. This has got to be the worst field of "finalists" for President in my lifetime

This is a Twilight Zone moment. Last night, I did this graphic. Perhaps Camille was on FR?

That either of these two are candidates for president illustrates how significant the socialist/marxist threads are that run through our social fabric.

Worse still, they disregard the negatives (historically?) associated with gender and race as if these will have no effect. Well, white men may not be able to 'jump', yet their record of election victories remains uncontested.

Surely you two guys can create something brilliant and hilarious with this.

I first saw Camille on C span about 5 yrs ago and thought here we go again with another lib lesbian flame thrower...

After just a few minutes I couldn't stop watching and after an hour I was amazed...

Here was an intelectual liberal who was actually willing to talk about the issues instead of demagoging...She had no hatred of W and actually had a fondness for Rush,(go figure)If I can find the link I will post it...

I still can’t bring myself to admit that Hillary would make a much better president than Obama. I think either one of them would be equally terrible!

Have to disagree on your point that Bill doesn’t care. A presidency for his wife gets him back in the spotlight and gives him a chance to do some legacy polishing.

And I think Hillary may actually still be running because she is as upset as the rest of us that such a nutcase could possibly have a shot at the presidency.

She has been planning this for a long time and just can't believe she is losing to Barack when the Democratic nomination is rightfully hers. She is just as power-crazy and despotic as Obama.

Here’s an excerpt from Paglia on the press, McCain and Rush. She captures the essence of all three with just a single paragraph!!!

“Only the pussy-whipped princelings of a press terrain soaked with feminist cant could mistake a stunted Uriah Heep like McCain for a “real” man. Ironically, liberal journalists’ blindness or malice has enormously strengthened their arch foe, Rush Limbaugh — whose radio show was the one reliable place, day by day amid the saccharine swill, to hear the refreshingly tart truth about McCain. After the McCain fiasco, Limbaugh’s cultural indispensability as an ideological counterweight should be acknowledged by every honest observer across the political spectrum.”

Bring on Barry O. If he is elected, we will see the biggest electoral backlash in American history om 2010.

Thanks! I accredit “Sexual Personae” with rescuing me from mainstream feminism. Or at least the anti-male, perpetual-victimhood aspects of it. Actually, it may very well have been my first little push towards “right” thinking! It was an exciting and liberating read. Plus I had just dropped out of art school with all it’s postmodern banality and nihilism, and her love of classicism really bucked me up.
