The Allies were wrapping up the battle of the bulge in late January of 1945 — the Rhine crossings were still well into the future when Auschwitz was liberated. Either Obama’s uncle served in the Red Army, or he’s spinning Clintonesque lies about Auschwitz to sell his government programs. Hey, it’s for a good cause…but it’s not enough for him. It has to be personal. It has to be all about him.
It’s like Bill Clinton whining about those Arkansas church burnings he witnessed as a child–church burnings which never actually happened.

The statistic they are now using is that "6,200 veterans commit suicide every year!" as part of a claim that this is due to poor medical care and lack of post-traumatic stress counseling.
The problem is, this statistic is not verified, and it does not reveal a suicide rate higher than the general population at large, adjusted for the overwhelming maleness of US veterans.

On January 12, 1950, United States Secretary of State Dean Acheson gave a speech declaring that America’s Pacific defense perimeter was made up of the Aleutians, Ryukyu, Japan, and the Philippines, implying that America might not fight over Korea. Acheson said Korea’s defense would be the responsibility of the United Nations.
My understanding is that when the Communists went to war in Korea, they thought the US would stay out of it -- because Acheson had pretty much come out and said that.
Saying stuff because it sounds good or because you think it will make a good impression is not such a good idea when you represent the executive branch. Obama is unfit for that role because he just says anything he wants.

It should be fairly straightforward to ascertain whether Obama’s uncle served in a unit that was ever anywhere near any of these places during the Liberation.
Somehow I doubt it.
After all, he wouldn’t be the first veteran to embellish his service record — that is, of course, unless his nephew is embellishing it for him.
Anyone game to check this out?

I do know that black troops ended up in graves registration so it’s not unlikely that a black soldier would come home in sorry shape. Just not as a liberator of Auschwitz.

Obama just might be a creation of the writers of West Wing and David Axelrod. There was a piece in the WaPo on Sunday (written by Peter Funt of Candid Camera, ironically enough) about Elie Attie (Gore speechwriter and WW staff writer) and Axelrod in 2004 exploring for over a year the development of a black or Hispanic character to be a winning presidential candidate in the series. Axelrod proposed Obama as a model for the character.
The question now is: to what extent is Obama now packaged as a West Wing character?
The real Obama does not exist. We learned that from his book. The man is a talking identity crisis— a stew of sentimental politically- inspired vignettes and platitudes that he reads from a teleprompter.

I met his uncle from Kenya at the Supreme Court in 2005. He was too young to have served during World War II.

I wish you people would get your history straight. Obama's uncle was originally born as the son of slaves in the 56th state of Alaska, but later became a Tuskegee Airman which is when he liberated Auschwitz, before coming home to march at Selma. It was here he first intimidated Barak's typically white grandma. He later died of AIDS and syphilis as the result of a covert experiment by the US Government.

One senses in this story Obama was going for a double play. Get the vets with his pledge to help those who suffer from war, and get Jewish Americans to see him as a direct descendant of those who liberated the death camps. I thought it was bad when he threw his granny under the bus, but this is especially bad taste.
