Investigators say a ‘‘survivalist” with a stockpile of food and more than 30 weapons and 230 pounds of chemicals was ‘‘rolling along” in producing explosives in his Gaithersburg townhouse when he was arrested last week.

When authorities searched the man’s home, they also found his 12-year-old son sleeping with a loaded handgun under his pillow and another within reach, county police said.

An anonymous tip about illegal fireworks led federal and county investigators to James L. Boka, 47, officials said. He was arrested May 21 and charged with 11 counts of possession of a destructive device, two counts of reckless endangerment and one count of weapon endangerment to a minor, according to a statement from county fire officials. He was released from custody the same day on $60,000 bond.

A James Boka registered with an online Ron Paul county group described himself as a U.S. Navy veteran who has worked inside Washington for 25 years in nearly every major agency, including World Bank, Pentagon.

Basic gun safety. Always keep a gun unloaded until it is ready to use. Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons. Anyone with even the most basic NRA or gun safety training knows this.

Placing a loaded gun under your pillow is idiotic to say the least and something one should only see in the movies. This shows disgregard for firearms safety and his son's life.

Sheeple don't know basic gun safety. This guy is an idiot. The real sheep are the ones who blindly see nothing wrong with what he was doing just because he is anti-government. The fact is, letting his 12 year old son sleep with a loaded gun under his pillow is stupid and things like this harm second amendment rights by giving the left a caricature of what they claim the ‘right’ is.

My 11th birthday present was a shotgun, and, by the age of 12 I owned several handguns. However...I have never considered "under my pillow" to be a safe place for a loaded weapon.

Of course, as far back as I can remember, my parents constantly pounded the rules of firearms safety into my young skull...

I should also add that it seems ‘sheep’ use the term sheeple a lot, almost in unison... baaa. baaa... sheeple...sheeple... just ignore the fact that nuts like this harm the rest of our ability to retain our rights because they can't follow basic rules of safety and responsibility.
