Rachael Ray ad pulled as pundit sees terror link

Dunkin' Donuts pulled a television spot featuring talk show host and Food Network personality Rachael Ray this weekend after a Fox news commentator associated it with terrorists.

In the ad, Ray is wearing a scarf that Michelle Malkin said in her nationally syndicated column resembled a kiffiyeh, Middle Eastern garb that is "popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos."

This is stupid. The scarf is not terrorist garb. Arab men wear it in the Middle East.

Looks like conservatives can be as hopelessly sensitive as liberals, in the right circumstances.

You can say that again. I think MM is heading for a breakdown. Used to be a regular reader of her blog. It now seems like a right wing version of a a typical moonbat site.

If you look at the product lines, endorsements, tv shows and magazines, Rachel Ray has more money than God, I mean almost as much money as her mentor, Oprah.

The "best" is Rachel Ray's racy photo shoot where she is covering herself with whipped creme and licking spoons for maximum effect. We used to watch her little show on the Food Network, never guessed she would be turned into a megamillionaire Oprah clone.

My theory is you could stand up a cardboard box as the host of some of these morning shows and it would get ratings. The Today Show proves my theory.

In no particular order I'm adding a couple of my posts from other threads.

---------------

That they're marketed, not all that successfully, as palestinian solidarity and anti-war (Iraq) symbols is beyond question. Did Rachel Ray know that, who knows, but she doesn't strike me as politically aware, so my guess no. The guy at the ad agency who set up the shot, you bet. Similarly, remember the many incidents where corporations are embarassed because suddenly their websites or travel schedules or phone directories no longer list Israel, rather palestine. Same thing, and not an accident.

-------------------------------

Looks to me like she bought one of the Urban Outfitters "Anti-War Woven Scarf" scarves at $20 a pop, or a similar product. Wonder if she has all the colors? Had to buy one right away, they pulled them from the shelves after a few weeks.

Or it could be a http://islam.about.com/library/products/aabybpalestinescarf.htm>http://islam.about.com/library/products/aabybpalestinescarf.htm

Matt Lauer was rumored to have one.

-----------------------

Keffiyehs can be all sorts of styles, patterns, and colors. Frequently no color, though the pro-palestinian scarf versions are usually black or red with the houndstooth pattern. Her's looks like a lousy digital photo of houndstooth to me, but it could be floral. Obviously there's no way of knowing what or why Ray is wearing, these things haven't been stylish for a couple years. I can see them not using the ad and shooting another, I don't think anything should happen to her.

Here's Meghan McCain in one.

--------------------

----------------------------------------

You'll note the comments above about Urban Outfitters who sold the original anti-war scarf. Replaced after the controversy by the trendy Skull Desert Scarf, essentially the anti-war palestinian solidarity scarf with an SS skull.

I thought they quit after that fiasco, but this is still on their UK website, and looks to be what she's wearing, now known as the Lace Print Silk Scarf, redesigned a bit with no skull. I wasn't aware they were selling these in the US, but others do, and the symbolism is clear.

This is just stooooooopid. It makes conservatives look moronic, and is akin to seeing swastikas in a tie design. Is Michelle out of stuff to write?

No, it's about stupidity---Michelle's.

A REPUBLICAN U.S. senator is worrying about televangelists, and leading conservative commentators are worried about what someone wears in a donut ad. And people wonder why libs just do whatever they want in this country.

Yes and she is a big lefty. Look who she supports. Sorry I think she is cute too BUT, I could not live with a woman who talks 24/7.

I have to admit when I saw the ad, it caused me to wonder where in the world Ray was. Yes, Palestine was my first thought, then I realized it was a DD promotion.

Feelings? Naw, it was my first impression and had me wondering even after the ad should have left my mind. And not about Donuts.

Hey, I really like Michelle, but according to Dunkin Donuts a stylist chose the scarf.

I heard the same thing. It appears there a many people, that includes Michelle and a boatload of FReepers, that need to stop by DD and get a cup of DECAF.

This place is starting to get creepy.

If we lose in November, it will be partly because people on the right came off as drooling loons. MM needs to have a nap or something if she thinks silk paisly is the symbol of Yassir Arafat. This kind of nuttery does not advance conservatism.

"Besides, Rachel Ray is a big lefty ditz."

I don't know about that, but after watching a couple of her dining out on $40 a day shows, it's obvious she is a cheapskate tipper.

When you allow the terrorists to appropriate styles of scarfs, the terrorists win.

When you tell people there are things they cannot where, freedom loses.
