GAY MARRIAGE BATTLE BEGINS IN NEW YORK
Associated Press ^ | May 29, 2008

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Opposition surfaced Thursday against Gov. David Paterson's directive to state agencies to recognize gay marriages legally performed in other states and countries.

The Rev. Duane Motley of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms said the Democrat "slapped the people in the face by circumventing their representatives," while New York's Catholic bishops said "just as the state cannot declare a man to be a 'mother' or a woman to be a 'father,' it can not declare a same-sex union to be a 'marriage."

Paterson issued a memo earlier this month saying that gay New Yorkers who marry where it is legal will have the right to share family health care plans, receive tax breaks by filing jointly, enjoy stronger adoption rights and inherit property.

Paterson cited a February ruling in a New York Appellate Division court in which the judges determined that there is no legal impediment in New York to the recognition of a same-sex marriage.

While gay rights advocates hailed the move, the feeling was not unanimous.

State Senate Republican Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, who opposes gay marriage, questioned the constitutionality of Paterson's action, but said in a Thursday morning news conference that he hadn't yet seen the memo.

>>receive tax breaks by filing jointly

The real reason.

America’s new Slogan:

Marry a fag, don’t smoke one.

Patterson overstepped - The law of unintended consequences - polygamy, pedophile marriage - and G*d-knows-what-else would also have to be recognized.

Other COUNTRIES????

So 10 wives is OK?
Cutting off the hands of thieves?
Cliterectomies?
Stonings?

Have ALL our elected officials lost their collective minds? Does anyone remember we are a sovereign country with our own constitution and laws?

The government of the United States hasn’t the power to bestow the sacrament of marriage upon anyone for swearing to live out their lives in an abomination. Moreover, it is Constitutionally bound to make no law respecting an establishment of religion. Marriage, as a sacrament, is not within the purview of the state but a foundational right of passage in the spiritual development of the children of God. Godless socialists seek to force the state to redefine the word marriage only to create a greater social schism.

so he wants all marriages recognised

well OK

In some countries men have married animals like in India, Muslims throughout the world have up to 4 wives,

this is just plain stupid, based on his idea then all those marriages would be made legal which in turn polygimists from the west now sue to have their marriages recognised

this is just plain stupid and dumb.

I have told my children about the dangers of those like Patterson and his people who would support such a stupid idea or perverted act.

Now let me get this right

a man marries his goat in India and if he comes here with his goat his marriage would be recognized

muslims throughout the world according to their religion have up to 4 wives

now that marriage would be recognised

but my concealed weapons permit would not be recognised in that state though the constitution says I have that right

I know he’s legally blind but has he read the laws of the land and the constitution

meanwhile many people in NY will still sit on their arses saying ah not bothered, doesn’t affect me

well wait till the two men come prancing down their street holding each others arses
wait till the man who married his goat moves in next door and says this is his wife
wait till a man moves in and tell them that he has 4 wives

this has just proved it
Those elected and may I say not elected have completely lost their minds now

And remember, it was the Cal. Supreme Court and NY’s Democrat governor who brought this up, not some “evil Republicans” trying to sway the vote in November.

The courts spoke. Now the people have their turn . . .

There is no direct service between Atlantic City and Penn Station in New York, although New Jersey Transit intends to do something about that eventually. God’s Avenging Angel will have to change trains at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia first.

unless the man and goat are both US citizens the marriage wouldn’t be recognized so you don’t have to worry about that one

Remember, we're talking about God here. That service was put in at the beginning of time. NJT just hasn't caught up yet. ;o)

Can't you take the PATH train from Newark's Penn Station after you've taken a NJT train from Atlantic City?
