The FBI has launched a publicity campaign in Afghanistan to announce a $1 million reward for information about an American from California charged with treason.
Adam Yahiye Gadahn, 29, grew up in Riverside County. He is "an integral part of al-Qaida's media and recruitment branch (and) has endorsed terrorist activity," FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said Friday.
Gadahn was indicted by a federal grand jury in Santa Ana in 2005. He was charged with one count of treason and two counts of providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization.
The FBI's publicity effort campaign will include matchbooks, handbills and posters that will be distributed throughout Afghanistan.
The FBI alleges Gadahn moved to Pakistan in 1998 and attended an al-Qaida training camp six years later, serving as a translator and consultant for the group.
Although Pakistani news sources in February reported Gadahn was killed in a missile strike, the FBI has not received conclusive evidence of his death, Eimiller said.

He’s dead Jim...
Well that is my opinion because he was the video tech wizard working on alqueda videos and since his purported death he has been absent in both his technical expertise or appearing in video’s as he sometimes did..so alas I think he is at room temperature.
If he was killed in that missile strike, it's gonna be pretty hard to prove by now. But he has been noticeably silent since then.
I think he’s dead. Which is a good thing.
Gadahn and whatever goat he was humping is dead meat, in my opinion.
But if we can locate where he’s been rotting away, by all means dig him up so he can properly p*ssed on as he so richly deserves.
