(Massachusetts) Local Authorities Creating (Unlawful) Gun Registry Databases
Gun Owners Action League (Massachusetts) ^ | 6/6/08

June 6, 2008

Gun Owners' Action League has recently received calls from members who are concerned about a new licensing requirement from some towns. According to the calls some local licensing authorities are requiring applicants, new or renewal, to turn in a complete list of the firearms (make, model and serial number) they own. GOAL would remind our members that there is no such requirement in the law.

"This is just another example of how out of control this system has gotten," said Jim Wallace Executive Director of GOAL. "There is absolutely no law that grants local licensing agents the authority to compile any kind of database on what lawful citizens own. It seems that some government agencies in Massachusetts have forgotten that if there is no law or regulation granting a specific authority then the government simply does not have it. Unlike citizens where laws are created to tell us what we can't do, the government's authority only exists when a law states what it can do! Government doesn't have rights, it has limited authority that must be limited to what we the people have granted it."

GOAL is urging any of our members who are confronted with this requirement to immediately notify GOAL headquarters and provide us with any documentation if possible. 508-393-5333 or jimwallace@goal.org

I think McCain has a shot in Mass, because of the experience with Deval Patrick. If they were smart, McCain’s campaign would focus on Mass for that reason as a warning to the rest of the nation.

I just called. Spoke with a young lady who said the only city she knows of right now is Acushnet (in Bristol County) which is down near Attleboro, Fall River, New Bedford and Taunton. She said they would update the website when more info comes in, probably later today.

From Foxborough PD’s website..

“Gun registration

If you had an FID card, it has expired. Even if the card had an expiration date of ‘Indefinate’ it is no longer valid. You will need to apply for a new LTC

Strict new eligibility requirements now apply. Please contact your local police officials for details.”

also states strict criteria for renewals.

I’m looking for a list of towns now, and I’m hoping this is a voluntary compliance sort of thing.

Honestly, no government agent will ever have a list of all my firearms. Ever. In MA we’re allowed up to 310 firearms PER LICENSE per household.

What other purpose would it serve to have a list of weapons from LAWFUL OWNERS other than to know what to come and confiscate? No damn way.

I did not wake up this morning in 1938 Berlin.

Other weapons? Yes I do as a matter of fact. A Red Ryder BB gun, and an old wrist rocket.

Maybe since Obama -— I mean Deval -— was elected Governor, some of the locals that want to establish a registry know that they have a supporter in the State House, who will not object in any way. The lack of any legal authority will not dissuade them from doing the right thing.

I'll take that bet. ;-)

I think Obama will win by a very wide margin in the People's Democratik Workers Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Correct. The change we need here is to rid our state of all this liberal bullcrap. Our founding fathers must be rolling in their graves.
I have been waiting seven weeks for my gun permit. I took the safety course, provided three reference letters and hired an attorney to help with all the legal mumbo. I have been in some trouble in the past but non that disqualifies me from this license. I have a valid FID card and have owned firearms for fifteen years, so what’s the delay?
The catch is..What are you going to do,call the chief in your town and complain.lol I’m sure you would immediately be an unsuitable person. What a joke this state and this system is. Ya I would move but I’ve got a decent job that pays some. Never in a million years would Hussien get my vote.

From Foxborough PD’s website..

It figures the home of the Patriots would be one of these wussy towns.

Screw Taxsachuttus. If you live there, you KNOW what they are doing and what it is like. Very simple, move down south here with all us gun loving and gun toating people. Simple as that.

I wonder how many so called citizens would give up their rights if the government announced they could win a free ipod nano if they would just register all their weapons. I bet a bunch of them would flock for a chance to win.

I also wonder how many so called citizens would give up their rights if the government announced they could get a permit that would allow them to carry a weapon in a concealed manner if they would take a test and submit to some kind of check... I bet a bunch of them would flock for a chance to do that.
