Even as the U.S. Senate debates a vast new tax and spend regime in the name of fighting climate change, a more instructive argument was taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark. Some of the world's leading economists met last week to decide how to do the most good in a world of finite resources.
Scarcity is a core economic concept, though politicians and even many economists prefer to ignore it. There isn't an unlimited amount of money to be spent on every problem, so choices have to be made. The question addressed by the Copenhagen Consensus Center is what investments would do the most good for the most people. The center's blue-ribbon panel of economists, including five Nobel laureates, weighed more than 40 proposals to improve the world by spending a total of $75 billion over the next four years.
What would do the most good most economically? Supplements of vitamin A and zinc for malnourished children.

Look what's coming: higher taxes, less free trade, government expansion with free health care, Democrats in control when the economy dips, and the big bomb - Global Warming and the out-of-control energy prices.
The mother of all depressions is on the way.

>>Money must be wasted on ill defined goals that will never be met
You bet. In Goldberg’s current book “Liberal Facism” he points to the liberal’s need for a crisis to govern. Would they go so far as to create the crisis in the first place????
Yes. Unless we defeat the Democrats at the polls in November. This must be the top and overriding priority of all decent, intelligent Americans. We must not falter. Our objective must be singleminded.
Money must be wasted on ill defined goals that will never be met. While real people are left on the sidelines. That’s the ultimate irony - and tragedy - of the global warming hoax.
Best quote of the day, so far. Politicians do love their crises. I lived through the inevitable horrors of Global cooling (1970s) and Ozone depletion (1980s). I guess Ill live through this latest farce. Lets hope that the man-made global warming hoax will soon go the way of disco and become forever irrelevant.
And it will be occurring while the US also has the mother of all national debts. There simply wont be anyway to financially recover. DC will be fiscal toast. Not a bad thing considering what we ended up with after 232 years. No way to stop it at this point. Global Cooling alone will freeze the economy (energy demand from last winter is also part of the current run-up in energy prices) and DC will default on its debt. No other choice. We should start preparing to pick up the pieces and reform the United States in the fashion it was originally conceived. A loose group of separate and distinct states with common defense and trade interests. IMHO.
But you see we can't do that. We simply haven't the PERFECT candidate to encourage enough of us to vote for him. Gotta stand on principle, ya know.
Besides, what's so bad about a world wide recession or the Muzzies attacking with impunity due to a gutted military, and a CIC who wants to sing KUM BI YA to our enemies and higher taxes which will trash the economy for sure? From our destruction will come the seeds of our salvation. We can build a new Conservative movement and reshape the country and the world. Of course there may not be anything left to build on but hey, principle's important.....right?
>> A loose group of separate and distinct states with common defense and trade interests. IMHO.
Everything Obama and the Dems propose is not constitutional unless one believes in the living breathing Constitution.
How can he take the oath?
Anyway....If the Constitution is “history”, we can play that game too.
But you see we can't do that. We simply haven't the PERFECT candidate to encourage enough of us to vote for him. Gotta stand on principle, ya know.
So right, the ostrich mentality by a lot of folks here who intend to sit out might give us Obama.
That's true assuming things remain the same as they are today. But what if robots work off the debt instead of the middle class? Advancing technology changes the game. If it wasn't for that the USA would have folded a long time ago.
War is really the mother of invention. We need a really good robot war against a non-stone age country. The robot technology that will come out of that will change the economy forever.
>>But what if robots work off the debt instead of the middle class?
Hah !!
Too funny.
Actually I think that’s what the Dem’s have in mind. But we’re the mind-numbed robots.
Anyone here or elsewhere who refuses to vote this NOV out of some deranged sense of ideological purity, will forfeit their right to whine about whatever befalls our nation due to their own inaction.
Unfortunately I have been in the position of holding lots of debt, while simultaneously experiencing a big drop off in income. And right now a lot of Americans are undergoing a somewhat similar situation due to the home mortgage mess. I don't think robot workers would help. The problem is paying the debtors. Unless the debtors need the robot workers, you have to default. No other choice. Lets see, perhaps we could use the robots to build pyramids for the Oil Pharaohs.
I have zero debt so I don't see things through the same lens. I have been in your shoes though. Hang in there. In 10 years your situation can completely change.
This global warming and fixing it just blows my mind. Who do these people think they are? Some sort of super humanoid who can change the weather. There is only One who controls our weather and universe and it ain’t albore and his group.
Politicians invent crisis then blame it on someone or thing, ie global warming/cooling/smog/acid rain, then they run for the next election to “right” the crisis, but they never succeed. We are driven from one crisis to another by our politicians and presstitutes.
I know they like to say that productivity is up, but the amount of actual energy that the young kids are willing to put into their work ethic is dangerously small nowadays. They really have no idea what hard work really is. Combine that with the fact that public schools are not giving them any relevant work skills and any future major recession or depression will not be recoverable. Can you imagine these young kids working all day long just for food while their work output is primarily used to pay the Nations Debtors ?

Presstitutes; I absolutely love that When the New York Times goes bankrupt I will be celebrating our freedom of press by other means
