Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said on Monday he would impose a windfall profits tax on U.S. oil companies as he sought political gain from Americans' pain over high gasoline prices.
Launching a two-week focus on the economy after clinching the Democratic presidential nomination, Obama drew a sharp contrast between his economic policies and those of John McCain, his Republican rival in the November election.
"I'll make oil companies like Exxon pay a tax on their windfall profits, and we'll use the money to help families pay for their skyrocketing energy costs and other bills," the Illinois senator said.

And I suppose he will place price controls on the fuel to keep the oil companies from raising prices to make up for the additional taxes. Sounds about right for the Marxist doofus.

Of course, the President can’t impose any kind of tax on anybody by fiat. Congress has to pass a law. Good luck with that President Hussein.
I think he should make himself a hero by saying that he will rescind federal gas taxes altogether and offer incentives to states who rescind state gas taxes.
Does anyone here remember the 70s? Gas lines? Odd/even days? Leisure suits? Okay, there’s no chance of the latter coming back, but the first two are on the way for a return engagement. Cue “Disco Duck”.
a couple weeks ago, maxine waters slipped and gave us an indication of what obamba and the democrats really want to do : nationalize the oil industry with a government takeover. that’s their plan.

There are so many people in the general electorate who don’t have a clue about the economy and who are going to eat this nonsense up.
The only remotely good thing about this is that if this idiot does this it will destroy his ability to govern, as the situation will just get that much worse.
