I neglected to mention the second rule of debating—when arguing from a strong position, don’t make crap up. In other words, when arguing that the Bush Administration is moving too slowly while building the fence, arguing that it is not building it at all makes you look like an idiot.

“If it was simply a Constitutional check-and-balance in play...”

No - that's what makes it so disheartening. It is not constitutional checks and balances at all, it is political checks and balances. (Well, I voted FOR the fence before I voted against it).

Interesting how the writer uses that term (even going so far as to call it the “time-honored” method of checks and balances) - as if to make it sound like the constitutional idea.

I guess if authorization was made to extend the fence by 1,000 miles it would have been a “smokey back room deal”.

President Bush has signed an executive order requiring contractors
and others who do business with the federal government to make
sure their employees can legally work in the United States.

Nothing like seeing The President of The United States of America...
playing CATCH-UP with a state official in Missouri.

(Ms. Steelman...than made sure that government contractors in
MO hired only legal US residents/citizens. IIRC she even got
a tax credit given to the offending company negated when they
were found to be using illegals.)

"And, just exactly when did this process of land acqusition start?"

For someone who is sooooooo concerned about "The Fence" you know nothing and are begging me for information?! Google is your friend. Expand your knowledge.

Every question you have, you can answer it yourself. What are you? A liberal? I gotta do it for you? I have posted responses and links to all your questions.

And guess what... I like Mexico. Been going there since I was 2 years old. I am an Irish-Texan who speaks both English and Spanish.

The fence is being built. I have provided you BOTH with that information.

At this point, both of you are coming off like HUGE cry babies. I feel I am dealing with spoiled liberals.

What fence? Give me some of those mushrooms you’re eating. I want to see things that aren’t there too.

Remember that highly touted, 100 million dollar "Virtual Fence", by Boeing that wound up being scrapped (not reliable) ....??

A Virtual Fence means virtual security.

I do remember that. Not one inch of virtual fence.

I can't disagree with those who criticize Bush for not doing more MUCH earlier. On the other hand, this shows that we are still so very much better off with a weak conservative than with "sending a message" and putting a democrat in.

Late is better than never. Does anyone truly believe that ANY Democrat would do more than this? Let's say the next Dem president is strong on this--what about that Democrat congress?

This one (from yesterday)?

Boeing awarded contract on border fence: Chertoff

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government has decided to award Boeing contracts for the construction of two sections of a high-tech fence to be built along the border with Mexico in Arizona, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said on Monday.

At the risk (that I gladly accept) of arguing semantics, that does not qualify as being "scrapped." It might not work (who knows?), but please don't add to the pile of non-information here.

Chertoff has a stake in this because if they ultimately decide not to go with the "virtual fence" then he loses a lot of face. If the GAO report on Project 28 is accurate, then Chertoff is advocating the implementation of something that will not be effective, and will be riddled with problems.

"Virtual Fence Losing Its Constituencies in Wake of GAO Report : "

Still too many unanswered questions.
