An official reaction to FEMA's no-ice policy came from U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor who referred to FEMA officials as a "bunch of buttheads."
Last week, officials were told that FEMA had decided to only supply ice for use in medical emergencies and life-saving reasons. It's left local officials scrambling to figure out ways to make it available for the general public.
During a meeting with Hancock County Board of Supervisors this morning Taylor said he intends to write to FEMA to register his objections to the new policy. He also urged Hancock County supervisors, as well as the city councils of Waveland and Bay St. Louis, to send similar letters of objection.

When did the government start owing me ice.
FEMA has wasted a huge amount of money hauling ice around the country. All things considered its not really necessary in an emergency except for health requirements.
I live in Florida and have been thru hurricanes without ice or air conditioning.
What ice? Is this talking about after a storm?
They hand it out in the food lines during disasters. it generally melts before you get it home. Instead of using trucks to carry ice it would be more helpful to carry useful things and not things for comfort.
“No ice a-tall” is what we used to call a woman with a flat butt.
Forget ice, throw away perishables and get used to being hot and drinking warm water.
The federal government no less. This is a good activity for Christian charity groups during an emergency.
I’ll never forget this asshat grilling Brownie aftr Katrina.
He ripped the FEMA for not being there before the storm with 5 gallon cans of gas for everybody who may have needed it. He actually said that!
I was without electricity for seven day after Katrina...I made my own ice anyway.
They're federal government bureaucrats.
What the hell did he expect?
I was homeless for 5 months after Katrina. God, it was hot for weeks! I lived on Vienna sausages and crackers for most of that time; lost 30 pounds.
I nearly bankrupted myself trying to save my business (I serviced home oxygen patients) while all the welfare folks went to the head of the line for FEMA trailers.
These buttheads are the some ones folks want managing their health care!! What don’t they understand about government waste and inefficiency?
Ice was a minor concern at the time and still is.
I just thought Taylor’s retort was humorous.
Did FEMA ever get that ice to Nawlins?
They are incapable of living without ice.
He’s a jerk and moron as well. Our expectations of the fed are increasing too rapidly for me. Make your own ice!
Wow, was the title of this article:
“FINALLY A POLITICIAN SPEAKS THE TRUTH!”
While I’m no fan of FEMA, I have to agree that it’s almost funny that some of my fellow Americans think that no matter how serious and severe the major disaster, they shall NOT be inconvenienced.
