WAMEGO Despite some differences in political opinions, former presidential hopeful Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., said he will support John McCain in the election.
The presidential election was among the topics when Hunter spoke Saturday at Kaw Valley State Bank in Wamego in support of former Rep. Jim Ryun's bid for the 2nd District
The conservative Hunter, who has been a strong supporter for establishing a physical fence line to the country's southern border, initially endorsed Mike Huckabee but said he called McCain to give his endorsement after the Arizona senator secured the nomination.
"McCain has committed to the fence," Hunter said. "John will keep his word."
In February, a list of McCain supporters in Kansas was topped by former Sen. Nancy Kassebaum Baker and followed by Sen. Sam Brownback.
The conservative Ryun is backing McCain as well.
"I'll give him my support," Ryun said. "He's on the top of the ticket."
Ryun faces state Treasurer Lynn Jenkins for the Republican nomination. The winner will face incumbent Rep. Nancy Boyda, D-Kan., in the general election.

I can understand Duncan Hunter endorsing John McCain, because Senator Obama would be a disaster.
I’ll vote for McCain if he picks a conservative running mate. If McCain picks a RINO, like Gov. Charlie Crist, I’ll probably write in Duncan Hunter’s name.

I think Duncan Hunter is supporting the lesser of two evils. As a Vietnam Vet and ranking Republican on the House Armed Services Committee whose son has also served 3 tours in Iraq/Afghanistan, the war and a strong military are important to him. He also feels that McCain will build the fence and be better on immigration. As a social conservative, he also knows McCain is pro-life and opposed to gay marriage which is better than Obama. I would love for McCain to put Hunter on his ticket or in his cabinet so Hunter would have a shot to run in 2012.

"Conservatine politicos are figuring this out, so why aren't FReepers?"Maybe we're too dumb...ignorance is bliss and I feel great about not voting for McCain.

It is more fun to bitch about the obvious than thing strategically or realistically. Yes the choice of McCain sucks, but come on folks, Obama? I mean if it were Hilary I could see a protest third party vote or sitting it out, she would be low risk since she would be as ineffective overall as her “husband”...
Obama represents something far more devious and troubling than just being a liberal democrat politician.

Do you really need to call someone a “pinhead” because you disagree on a candidate? For your information, I am MENSA eligible (not a “joiner”), have a PhD, served in military intelligence (minimum GT score of 110 to qualify—I had a 128 from my 9th grade ASVAB) and am a successful business owner. Is that your definition of a “pinhead” sir?!

Obama should be no where near the White house. I don’t agree with McCain on some issues, but McCain is the logical choice.

Sure, because obviously Hunter really isn’t a conservative, since he’s supporting McCain... He’s just a RINO as well, right?

It’s funny, Mark Levin was making the case against Obama tonight, some one called him a fear monger. I think Mark Levin is beginning to get it too. Getting it doesn’t mean you have to agree 100% of the time, but I think some conservatives are seeing the real danger to this country if Obama is elected.

Politicians have fewer choices than ordinary voters. I don’t really think any less of Hunter and Ryun for this. It’s not as if they jumped in quick or showed much enthusiasm. It’s pretty much endorse the candidate or leave the party, and that would be a pity at this stage.
It’s not as if they supported McCain when it really mattered, like Charlie Crist.

give it about 5 months of Obama, Obama, and Obama. They'll come around...at least most of them.

"Its not as if they supported McCain when it really mattered, like Charlie Crist." I'm hearing all kinds of talk about Crist's sexuality, so I hope McCain doesn't consider putting him on the ticket.
