Mexico City (dpa) - A 12-year-old girl died in northern Mexico after alleged members of a drug gang forced her and two friends into a van, apparently using them as human shields in a shootout, Mexican media reported Wednesday.

The girl reportedly died on Monday in Ciudad Juarez, a violent city on the border with the United States. The girls were in a park when they were forced into the van. Later, they were used in a shootout with another vehicle.

The authorities presumed the drug gang attempted to use the girls as a shield, to keep at bay a rival group that was chasing them.

Around the abandoned van, police found 21 AK-47 bullet shells.

In the back seat they found the body of a girl. Her two friends were found alive, although one of them suffered non-life-threatening wounds.

The rival gang reportedly took the van driver, while another person travelling with the girls managed to escape.

Chihuahua state Governor Jose Reyes Baeza asked the central government of Mexican President Felipe Calderon ``to intensify the presence of security forces in the state'' to contain the ongoing wave of violence and prevent the deaths of more innocent people.

As long as "M" make more money in a day than the average Federale makes in a year, this sh-t will continue.

Actually, I don't think these guys were M, most likely independent operators with more brawn than brains. They will wind up getting it from someone based in the Juarez area.

It would probably helpful to Mexico’s “drug problem” if the “security forces in the state” were purged of drug gang members.

How sad. Some horrible stuff going on in that country.

Do you think that we’ll hear about how they should worry about their citizens before telling us how to take care of our illegals?

There is nothing, other than the numbers of attrition, to prevent this war on our southern border from getting a lot worse. And that’s just what I predict (not that it takes any vast insight) because it’s getting ZERO coverage. I don’t care too much about the carnage south of the border. But the folks who promised to build the fence haven’t built the fence, and IMO, it will never be built. We need it more than ever.

Shhhhh....diversity is good.

Poverty, crime, drugs, polka at 4 AM and DUI’s are what the US needs, why be bothered with that old school white guy stuff like college, clean neighborhoods and national pride?

We need more barrios to fulfill the Ted Kennedy dream of a Marxist state.

Don’t you see, it’s America’s fault because if these girls had been allowed to cross the border into our country, they’d be getting a free education and healthcare right now!/sarc

“It would probably helpful to Mexico’s ‘drug problem’ if the ‘security forces in the state’ were purged of drug gang members.”

That easier said than done when law enforcement are paid not much more than a dollar an hour and organized criminals are killing those that don't accept bribes. As long as these drug trafficking organizations are making billions selling drugs to Americans they're going wield significant power down there, and no amount of cracking down on them or corrupted cops is going to change things. It's all about the money.

With our wide open borders and amnesty, it’s coming to a neighborhood near you. Watch for it.
