United Nations: It's said that the U.N. is only as good as its members. But putting a Nicaraguan dinosaur communist at the presidency of the General Assembly takes it all a step lower. Already, the America-bashing is back.

His politics discredited, he ought to be out on his ear with his class-warfare philosophy expiring in the ashcan of history.
Instead, the three-way election in Nicaragua in 2006 brought back ex-Sandinista dictator Daniel Ortega and d'Escoto with him.
Already, d'Escoto's started fulminating against America.
He's blasted "acts of aggression, such as those occurring in Afghanistan and Iraq," in a clear shot at the U.S.

Yes, the DIms offer the same thing with a RCP (Revolutionary Communist Party) candidate by training and association....Obamas’ New Party (one of his backing institutions) is the equivalent of the RCP for practical purposes. Maybe the Dims should just come out with the Newcommarx Party if they want to offer real ‘change’ and ‘progress’....no platform announcement needed..they have had it for decades. A better public understanding would ensue.

Keep in mind that Daniel Ortega won the Presidency of Nicaragua with only about 36% of the vote.
The conservatives there screwed themselves by running multiple candidates which split the vote.
He doesn’t represent most Nicaraguans. Perhaps they’ll be smart in the next election cycle.
There was another historical candidate in the 1930's who got "just 36%" of the vote. Guess what? There were no more elections after that.
Mounting evidence of his sympathies towards Farc in recent weeks appears to have seen the president propel another wave of discontent. Suspicions among his opponents - who already suggested he resign over recent strikes by truck drivers protesting rising fuel prices and riots caused by the increasing cost of food - have also been fermented, while political in-fighting within his own party has reached fever pitch.
After the announcement of Marulanda's death late last month, Ortega was quoted as paying tribute to the man who started Farc (considered a terrorist group in Colombia) in 1964 and led the group during its battles with successive Colombian governments.
"I say to our Farc brothers and sisters that we must carry on battling in order to achieve peace in Colombia," he told reporters in Montevideo on the day Marulanda's death was confirmed.
If Ortega was going to pull that stunt, he would have done so when he was President the first time.
They will have another election, and he will be voted out again.
