Part of the Problem, Not the Solution, in Chicago Politics

We can only judge people by their actions, not by their words or intentions. This is why even a cursory look at a self-described "agent of change", Barack Obama, tells so much about his true character.

In Chicago, Barack Obama embraced the political status quo, in fact, he has become emeshed in the status quo in his very brief political career.

Much has been said about his many associations in the seedly backdrop that is Chicago politics, but one point remains clear. Obama made no attempt to speak out against the system, much less fix it.

Obama played out his hand with all the corrupt Chicago politicians and power brokers to raise funds and achieve his political ambitions.

One key player is Tony Resko, a dual U. S. and Syrian citizen, who was recently convicted on numerous corruption charges. These are serious enough that several Democrats in the Illinois House and Senate are exploring impeachment options against Governor Blagojevich.

Obama's vast vision for change apparently didn't include cleaning up any of the mess in his own back yard, and upcoming trials involving Rezko may show just how much involvement Obama had with this notorious fundraiser. Certainly Obama would not be where he is today without Rezko.

Much has also been said about Obama's church. Suffice it to say that a truly courageous agent for change would have challenged the polarizing rhetoric that was eminating from the pulpit, or at the very least, walked away from it. But this is not the Obama that we're coming to know.

In short, Obama was clearly part of the problem in Chicago Politics, not the solution. There is little evidence to think that he would be any different as president.

What do community organizers do? Are they basically rabble rousers, who go complain about every problem, and expect the government to fix everything? Aren’t they people who complain about the structure of society and how the downtrodden are pushed down by circumstances beyond their control?

I would like to know more about what young Barack was doing as a community organizer. It might sound like he’s out there helping the community, but I wonder what else was going on.
