Mr. Russert is one of millions of liberals who lived his own life according to conservative values but advocated liberalism for the remainder of his compatriots. I didn’t know the details of the Libby case and how much Russert was involved. It was a real shocker to learn that he had collapsed on the job.

The narrative of the BDS crowd should have been discredited long ago.
Joe Wilson went to Nigeria to assure that they would know the answer to the “16 words” question on “Africa”.
It’s a classic set up.
We let the progressives get away with this and so much more.

In 1991, shortly after he became “MTP” host, Tim Russert asked David Duke factual questions about Louisiana government, one of which ws the name of the state’s largest employer. Duke could not answer the questions. I don’t think Russert has ever asked anyone else factual questions. Wonder how Oprah’s Obama would fare with factual questions? The point is why was the objectionable Duke treated differently from other guests.

If the information I read on another Russert thread yesterday was correct, then Russert’s testimony was correct and Libby’s was not. According to what the poster said on yesterday’s thread, it was LIBBY who changed his testimony after Russert testified.

Russert... Cooper... Mitchell... they were all neck-deep in the Plame/Wilson scam.

These “journalists” are suppose to report the news, not be the news. A lot of people died yesterday.

I liked Russert generally speaking but his actions on the Scooter Libby episode was something less than honorable. This was just the criminaization of conservatism, plain and simple.

I don’t give a rat’s ass what happens to that murderer Kennedy. He deserves whatever life throws at him. However, I don’t think there is a reason to bring this bit up about Russert at this time.

US v. Libby was a show trial of the old Soviet style.

It was a non-crime in search of a criminal.

The rats do not merely defeat, they must destroy. Obama has already made statements sympathetic to the idea of probes by his Justice Dept of mythological Bush administration crimes.

Would a proper autopsy that found the presence of illegal drugs be a help to Scooter Libby? From watching some of the debate action it looked to me like Mr Russert’s behavior varied from odd to unstable. I saw one report already that he was at least on some kind of medication. What kind of drug kills you?

Tim Russert's Testimony Sent Scooter Libby To Jail

Not really.

An over-zealous prosecutor and a hyper-partisan jury is what sent Scooter Libby to jail.

For all we know, according to his recollection, Russert was telling the truth about his exchange with Libby.

For that matter, for all the jury knew, Scooter Libby was telling the truth about the exchange, as well.

It was an uncorroborated "he said/he said" situation. Hardly enough for to commit a man of a felony.

However, the prosecutor and the jury made it into a "reverse OJ verdict".

Cry me a river. Lewis Libby is a sick freak whose novel should be on the banned list of every library. One scene:

"At age 10 the madam put the child in a cage with a bear trained to couple with young girls so the girls would be frigid and not fall in love with their patrons. They fed her through the bars and aroused the bear with a stick when it seemed to lose interest."

To quote one reviewer: The book is laced with scatology, drunkenness, and torture. Subjects like urine, turds, armpits, pubic hair, bestiality, and menstrual cycles, flow from this literary trash. Libby describes quivering inner lips, arching backs, firm breasts, and everything is moist.

All I know for sure is that Scooter Libby is very loyal to his boss Dick Cheney, and Scooter will absolutely and positively get a Presidential pardon sometime between November 5th 2008 and January 20, 2009. The late Tim Russert was a Democrat, but I don’t think he was the sort to deliberately lie under oath for partisan reasons. Rest in peace, Tim.

Face it folks Russert was never a conservative. He was a Democrat hack with higher people skills than say ...Chris Matthews but they're both the same.

It is strange that he died so suddenly. Even after he had been given a clean bill of health by the doctors. True he had some chronic health matters, but nothing that would bring about such a major event. I suspect that something additional had to intervene such as his overseas flight. Of course, getting on the wrong side of HRC is also not a precursor of a long healthy life. He should’ve carried a St. Christopher medal and gotten communion at least once a week. When you're dealing with someone who has a list of over 200 people who have met untimely demises, you tend to take all precautions...like gathering up all your hair clippings before leaving a barber shop, burning all your old clothes instead of giving them away and never having them dry cleaned or washed outside your home. It also would've been best if he had worn garlic around his neck.

Libby, or someone else in the administration would have been lynched for something anyway.

A perjury conviction requires that there be an underlying illegal act for the accused to lie his way out of. The alleged “illegal act” was the outing of a covert agent. According to the lady who drafted the relevant law, Valerie Plame did not fit the legal definition of a covert agent. Since Plame was not a covert agent there was no “crime”. So Libby could not have committed perjury even if he had deliberately lied, which is very doubtful.

The prosecutor knew even before the trial started that Richard Armitage was the “leaker” and not Libby. But Armitage was a “good guy” because he opposed the Iraq war and left the state department. And he stood there silent and watched Libby’s life get ruined. A real class act.

We had a partisan prosecutor (who was recommended for the job by a Clinton holdover in the Justice Dept.), an activist judge, and therefore an uninformed jury. So Libby was found guilty of something he didn’t do and wasn’t even a crime anyway. Good Job! In military parlance I think that would qualify as a “cluster f**k”..
