Lieberman irks Democrats by criticizing Obama

By ANDREW MIGA, Associated Press Writer 33 minutes ago

Joe Lieberman is fast becoming the Democrats' public enemy No. 1.

The four-term Connecticut senator, who came tantalizingly close to being Al Gore's vice president in 2000, not only has been campaigning for his pal, presumed Republican nominee John McCain, now he's publicly criticizing the Democrats' standard-bearer, Barack Obama. Lieberman has strayed before, most notably switching from Democrat to independent in 2006 to hold onto his Senate seat after a Democratic primary loss.

But the latest betrayal has upset Democrats, who often answer in clipped but polite tones when asked about Lieberman. The reason: The independent still caucuses with the Democrats on most issues except the Iraq war, and he holds their slim political majority in his hands.

"There's a commonly held hope that he's not going to be transformed into an attack dog for Republicans," said Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., an Obama supporter.

Lieberman has wasted no time in questioning Obama's positions on Iran and Israel, two topics on which Lieberman and McCain agree. Just one day after Obama clinched his party's nomination, Lieberman joined Republicans on a McCain campaign teleconference call assailing Obama following his foreign policy address to a leading Jewish group.

Lieberman accused Obama of blaming U.S. policies for "essentially sort of strengthening" Iran.

I hope Lieberman keeps stirring them up...big time. But that McCain stays completely and wholly away from him as VP.

They need Lieberman now but after next Jan. when they have a majority of 55 or more then he will be expendable. Then he will need them. Of course I would say WE do not want him, as he is quite a lefty on issues other than security.

“presumed Republican nominee John McCain” v “Democrats’ standard-bearer, Barack Obama”

Why is McCain, who cinched his party’s nomination in February, the “resumed” nominee, while Obama IS the standard-bearer ?

Interesting and oh so revealing that this AP writer describes Liebermans actions as “betrayal”, while these non-biased, straight shooting media types refer to McCains antics as those of a “maverick!”

We want Lieberman to stir them up and naysay Obama...who deserves absolute naysaying and who is the dream candidate of the enemies of this nation and who, himself is far further left than even Lieberman on social issues.

But we absolutely do not want Lieberman on or anywhere near the ticket.

John Kerry's phrase for anyone that tells the truth: Attack dogs.
He called the Swift Boat people, attack dogs too.

Obama's attempt at bullying Lieberman backfired--and who betrayed who? The Dems tried to unload him, and failed.

At first I thought Obama's intimidation tactics were a put-on, maybe he didn't realize the cameras were running in the Senate, or maybe he's so arrogant that he feels entitled. It's an interesting insight into BHO's personality.

One of the ironies of this campaign while the GOP fight for over the McCain wing of the party getting a nominee for the second time since maybe Ike is described as a schism, there is a real battle for the heart and soul of the Dim party going on.

From time to time a party will nominate a candidate from their wing towards the center and some party activists will be disapointed. The GOP really not done this since maybe G.H.W. Bush unless you want to claim Dole is in the McCain wing.

On the other hand the Dims have over the last couple of decades excluded more and more ideas, ie pro life, strong defense etc and now they have nominated the most left candidate in US political history. The Lieberman’s of the party and there are not many left nationally, but some locally too are fighting to maintain a place for themselves in this party. So will they become the party of blacks and egg heads?

The problems in Iran are the fault of the Democrats and Jimmy Carter. He singlehandedly turned a staunch ally into a terrorist enemy.

“The four-term Connecticut senator, who came tantalizingly close to being Al Gore’s vice president in 2000”

I have to agree, Senator Lieberman did come pretty close to becoming Al Gore’s vice president. I may be going out on a limb here, but I don’t think you could get any closer to being Gore’s vice president. Especially after the convention, being on the ticket and all.

Sheesh!

Goldstein (from 1984 by Orwell)

Lieberman is to the Democrats, what Trotsky was to Stalin and Goldstein was to Big Brother in "1984". The traitor Jew serving as projection of hate.

I cant get over how much legitimacy Kerry is still given. Even Democrats in his home state of MA want to put someone on the ticket to de-throne him this fall because he never does anything!! (Except ski in Europe)
