Am I the only one who sees this here on so many post and responses? You don't believe me? Read thru the comments on Russert's death and the coverage (especially, "Wall to Wall Russert on Morning Shows" and Tim Russert's Testimony Sent Scooter Libby To Jail) to see what kind of ad hominens and illogicals there are.

Appalling.

Oh, if only Hanson would respond to some of the poster's on FR and there were more who respond as does he.

Hanson just won a six-figure prize for his work and doesn't have time to bandy about with ignorant and ill-mannered freepers. Buchanan by contrast, hasn't held a real job since scribbling speeches for Richard Nixon forty years ago. You know he did a great job at that, too, by the memorable Nixonian lines we all cherish.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that VD's original article didn't contain what you call ad hominem. This one does though, but he can say that he was provoked.

If there's a lesson in this it's that people don't have authority outside of their areas of expertise. What Pat Buchanan thinks about WWII doesn't carry any weight at all, because he's an amateur when it comes to the history that era.

VDH, by contrast, has shown here that he does know about the origins of WWII and more power to him, but when he starts to pose as the great strategist of our time, watch out, because that's outside of his own area of expertise.
