Senior members of the Congressional Black Caucus yesterday criticized a compromise plan for the proposed merger of the XM and Sirius satellite radio companies, saying the deal does not provide enough opportunities for minority-owned programming.
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin J. Martin said over the weekend that he would support the merger after XM Satellite Radio Holdings and Sirius Satellite Radio voluntarily agreed, among a series of other concessions, to lease 4 percent of their radio spectrums, or 12 channels, for programming run by minorities and women.
Members of the black caucus on Capitol Hill have been arguing for the merged company to lease five times that amount of spectrum to companies owned by racial minorities. Short of that, caucus members have warned in letters to the commission and meetings with Martin, they would oppose the merger.
In an interview yesterday, Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.), chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus's working group on satellite radio, called Martin's proposed compromise "completely unacceptable."

In any color that I want?
This is the dumbest damn thing I have ever heard of!! My God, no wonder Congress never gets anything of consequence accomplished!! They would REALLY spend time on something this stupid? Good grief.
Yes, as long as it's black.
Ummmm, the correct term is "African-pony."
I have Sirius and there is already an entire section devoted to rap. I never go there, but it seems to me the programming is not the issue here. It is all about the $$$
Doesn't provide enough"?? Says who? By what right? These are private companies, right?
More social engineering by a minority group in congress. These people have learned from jessy jackson how to do the shake down shuffle. When Obama gets in look for this to be the norm.
Does anyone remember the Saturday Night Live piece with Eddie Murphy? Its based upon the idea that whites treat each other differently when blacks are not around. So he puts on white face and gets on a city bus, only to find stewardess serving champagne. And at the newsstand, whites dont have to pay for their papers if theres no blacks around.
“the deal does not provide enough opportunities for minority-owned programming”
How much is enough?
What is the basis for selecting any specific amount?
Who has the authority to decide?
IIRC everyone gave a big wink to each other - it was a great piece - gonna look for it on youtube now
We have XM and there are a few Rap and other stations to satisfy any Black American. I guess Jessie will hop the band wagon their is $$$$ in them thar hills.
Seems like about 30% of the spectrum is the current asking price. I guess the formula was to take the (population black + women %), roughly 60% and reduce it by the “this is a bit too greedy for today; we’ll wait for later” factor of 1/2. Thus 30%. Government mathematics.
In any color that I want?
Just be thankful if it survives a year, and doesn't have rabies.
Hey, that's been my idea for years.
*Studies show* that 100% of Black Felons in prison never had a pony as a kid. So in order to eliminate all Black crime - 'we' just give them a pony.
Which reminds me, 54 years later and I'm still waiting for my dam pony Santa! So you better hurry before I cap someone.

Should be sued for discriminatiion.
I am sick and tired of being told that the colour of a persons skin does not matter and then in the next breath being told that we have to have so many black faces on TV, black this and that.
About time many blacks looked at themselves as Americans and that is it, they have no connection to Africa, no culture, no nothing
which I just state that africans can be white too
