The defeat of Sadr, the Sadrist Movement and their thuggish Mahdi Militia continues apace today as massive numbers of gunmen turn themselves into authorities in Amarah, capitol city of Maysan Province along the Iranian border:
Gunmen from different armed groups have begun to surrender to Iraqi government troops in the city of Amarah ahead of a military crackdown due to start there later this week, an Interior Ministry official said on Tuesday.

The bid to clampdown on the city follows similar efforts in Basra and Baghdad's Sadr City and northern Mosul.
Iraqi troops have fanned out en masse in the Tigris River city of some 450-thousand people, 200 miles (320 kilometers) southeast of Baghdad.
AP Television pictures showed Iraqi troops manning newly erected checkpoints with tanks and Humvees stationed on bridges in preparation for the operation.
No fighting has been reported, in contrast to the fierce resistance that met the start of a government offensive in late March in Basra.

it’s interesting that the Sadr Army is giving up but Sadr himself has been in Iran getting “religious instruction” in a self imposed sabbatical.
It sure appears these people are actually starting to wake up and realize they have been lead down a path by the nose, that offers them no real advantage over the long run.
However - it is all TEMPORARY.
Once the immediate threat is gone — they once again become the cowardly woman and child murderers their faith demands of them..
