No the conditions of surrender were that they turn in their weapons, and they will be paid for them.
To: xzins
Let’s hope that we have a few armed Predators or Reapers watching overhead so we can follow them back to their safe houses and weapons caches followed by an airstrike.

The angle I see is that this particular militia command structure in Amarah is composed of actual long term residents of Amarah, that is Sadr didn't have enough influence to place Iranian trained Iraqi refugees from the Iraq-Iran war (so called special group forces) into the top of the command structure.
The Sadrists in Amarah therefor had, have, and will continue to have a stakehold in the city's prosperity. Unlike Reconstruction in postbellum Confederate states in the US, the Sadrists will immediately shift into their civilian roles, if the Sadrist belief system is discredited, they will move on as Veteran Association members, such as the Japanese Veterans associations, but with less honor and community support due to their atrocities and human rights violations against their own population.

Forces loyal to Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr have told Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki they won't offer resistance when an expected offensive to take control of Amarah, capital of Maysan province, begins this week because they know they'd get their butts royally kicked like they did in Basra and Sadr City. There. All fixed.

We could really hammer the libs on this, but that would take Congressional republicans with backbones. The intersection of Congressional Republicans and Backbones is a null set.

"Sadr militia said....only as long as the government refrains from human rights violations and doesn't arrest suspects without warrants."
A few more months the militia will be NULL and VOID. Sadly the huge Shia Badr Brigade HQed in Basra will remain in tack and part of the security forces, since they where in existence prior to the new government being formed, and the constitution being created.
Hakim must be closely watched. He is much slicker then Sadr and was connected well with Iran long before Sadr. Hakim's claims for Iraqi national unity may be hollow in the end run. Then again maybe not due to the way things are now developing within their political game.

Kevin: Forget the “martyr” issue. Once the bastard is dead, he can’t lead and his successor will know that his time is also limited. This is what is happening to Taliban field commanders, Al QAEDA in Iraq leaders, Hamas leaders, and Fatah/Al Aqsa Brigade leaders.
After a while even the stupid get to understand that they have dead-end jobs, with an emphasis on dead-in-the-end.
Martyrdom in Islam is highly overrated in the modern age.

With gas prices and victory in Iraq, there are definetely trouble signs for the Dems.
No wonder Hil is keeping her powder dry; the Clintons are much better at triangulating and messaging than Obama and about a 100 times better than the Republicans.

My cousin’s son is in Iraq and he said the muzzies are scared spitless of the predator type surveillance/weapons. They are so scared of them they wouldn’t even go outside during the day to take a dump, only at night. Then they found out that with the infrared sensors and the low light technology we have they can’t even hide in the dark.
He said they now have to crap in a sack inside, or if the floor is dirt they have to dig a hole and bury it. My understanding is morale is not very high among the ragheads at this time.

I think he will stay in Iran and beef up further on lamb chops and avoid such a fate.

I hear that to.
This is why they will not have a stand up fight against us and instead prefer to cower among civilians and strike at soft targets.
I remember reading something from back when zarqawi was killed that we found letters stating that everything was in disarray, and that morale was non-existant because they were not getting the support they thought they should get, etc.

They realized the futility of fighting an overwhelming force. They would just have died and the troops would have still taken over. I believe that they realized that... PERIOD.
Things like this fight the got from the Iraqi Army - with U.S. Advisers - in Sadr City might have given them a clue. (One thing the Iraqi Army learned well is : "GO GO GO!"
I Love this film!
