Dems to Bush: Drop dead on oil drilling
Chicago Tribune ^ | June 18, 2008 | Frank James

Posted on 06/18/2008 1:37:24 PM PDT by kingattax

House Democrats responded to President Bush's proposal to end the moratorium on offshore as well as Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by telling the president to drop dead, although they used a lot more words to make the same point.

The Democrats' main argument was that the oil industry is already in possession of 68 million acres of oil leases and that Big Oil should drill away on those before they come around asking the federal government for any more land or ocean floor.

At a Capitol Hill press conference following Bush's White House Rose Garden appearance, Rep. Ed Markey of Massachusetts ridiculed the president as essentially a mouthpiece for the oil and gas industry.

which is where our beaches and our pristine wilderness areas are.

There are NO beaches 50 to 200 miles off the coast. Have you SEEN the section of ANWR where we want to drill? It's wasteland that nobody cares about, not even the bloody caribou and polar bears.

Is there any thought to having bills that would nationalize some of these refineries or start a national oil company?...

... REP. HINCHEY: Yeah, there's thought going on about this. Frankly, this is something that I think is essential.

Oh, so Hinchey thinks it ESSENTIAL to nationalize the oil industries?

Great...just great.

Sometimes I think liberals / socialists / radicals / anarchists / Democrats / try to hide what they really believe and who they really are. It’s good to see some clarity on the issue at hand. They are against more oil drilling and exploration, against nuclear power, against coal mining, against hydro electric. They are against the single biggest thing that we could do to help our energy problems and help us become independent of foreign oil eventually. It’s clarifying to see where they stand vs. where Republicans and conservatives stand on the issue. I like it when informed voters have the true information about issues.

but Al Gore said ANWR is “pristine”.

That’s it, debate is over. Al Gore weighed in, so that’s that.

I think Al Gore is having so much fun being the Pope of the Church of Global Warming that he isn’t even interested in running for president again.

Maybe Obama will appoint him Secretary of Energy.

If the GOP can’t make political hay out of the Democrats steadfast refusal to allow more drilling to help alleviate foreign dependence on oil and the trend in oil and fuel prices, then the Republican Party doesn’t deserve to survive after the November election. It’s way overdue to take the gloves off and start beating and kicking these liberal socialists in the head like an extreme fighting match.

Drop dead on doing anything that doesn’t include carbon-credit payoffs to Gore’s men in suits.

The economic ignorance by Democrats is truly astounding. Obama is against privatizing Social Security, saying “how comfortable would you be having your nest egg in the market today?” He is confusing the bearish market today with the outstanding (approx. 12%) rate of return that an investments have had in the stock market over DECADEs. Then we have these Democratic congressman lambasting the oil companies for not drilling on all of the 68 million acres they leased. They must be stupid enough to think that all of the oil is uniformly distributed underground. The fact is that it takes at least several million dollars to drill a rig, so if the data shows that there isn’t enough oil there to recover those costs, then you shouldn’t drill.

You hit the nail on the head. The Dems. are against everything that might help our energy situation. The only things they are in favor of are : solar energy, geo-thermal energy (if it can be found), and wind power (but only if windmills don’t hurt a bird or block Ted Kennedy’s view).

The heat is on the rats. We can do to the decades long restrictions on energy production as we did to the Shamnesty bill last summer.

It’s summer, and no one is paying much attention to heating bills. Those of you back East who rely upon home heating oil — well, stand by for adventure! When the cost of home heating oil climbs above $5/gal., get ready to pull out that credit card and fork over mucho bucks. All this “don’t drill” Congress may be in store for a really rude awakening, and I hope that Bush and McCain keep up the “drill now” talk. Common sense dictates that under Obama, we’re going to have to rely upon bicycles, public transportation, getting cold on those frosty winter nights, and forget about that vacation trip via the airlines.

McCain has to pound away on this issue, day after day, week after week. In the presidential debates, he needs to show that Obama is choosing to side with the extreme environmentalists over the American people (of ALL socioeconomic classes). Make Obama squirm and force him off of his prepared remarks to expose him for the lightweight that he is. That being said, McCain better wise up and drop his support of cap and trade.

I don't even want to think what it will cost this winter coming up.

:::::::
It isn’t about the critters. The freakin’ lib-socialists could not give less of damn about them. The ONLY reason they PRETEND to care, is because the stupid enviro-nutcases GIVE THEM MONEY to support their whacked-out causes and the libs do it without ANY care about the impact on America. The word “consequences” is not in the liberal play book; it is just too far reaching and way outside the interest span of power-mad liberals.
