Gun Free Zones Endanger The Lives of Children

Published on: June 21st, 2008 11:23pm by: unsolvedmysteries

(OPENPRESS) June 22, 2008 -- A new blog covers different aspects of culture and society to help people understand aspects of the world around them that is overlooked or taken for granted.

The author of this new blog, Abbas Abedi, says that he has been thinking of how to approach this large topic. He says that he could approach this topic like a book, laying groundwork to explain his views or he could rant about stuff that he notices in day to day life and link that with information sources. In the end Abbas decided to do both, rant and present models of understanding society and culture.

The first post on this new blog, located at http://www.culturesocietyblog.com , covers a relatively controversial issue of “gun free zones”. Abbas states a common view that having gun free zones in schools and colleges is dangerous for the children studying there. He claims that arming the faculty with concealed weapons and extensive training in shooting will reduce, if not eliminate, threats to children lives from crazy gunmen. Massacres, such as the ones at The Virginia Tech and Columbine, could not have happened if the schools were not gun free zones and the faculty were properly armed and trained.

Abbas goes on to say that rather than blaming TV and video games we should hold the owners of gun free zones responsible for any deaths that may occur by deranged gunmen. Abbas explains that not allowing guns onto a property is a law that will naturally be followed by good people but not by the bad ones. This means that gun free zones are always under a possibility of attack without defense.

An alternative is hiring security personnel and installing metal detectors, which is an extremely costly project especially on strained budgets. Paying a one time fee to properly train the faculty and encouraging others to get well trained in firearms will make us safer and will be inline with the second amendment.

The post explaining Abbas Abedi’s views on gun free zones is located at http://www.culturesocietyblog.com/?p=6 , and Abbas has also set up a page at http://www.squidoo.com/guncontrolinfo to provide more information, from different people, on the gun control debate.

Here is one of the more entertaining battles being argued in my local area on Gun Free Zones involving the wife of a local celebrity:

Fur Flies in the Gun Free Zone.

I would do it, but take out the words. The image is self explanatory. Or maybe if you had it in Latin. :)

Originally I was thinking of putting “kill all the lawyers” in Latin, but I was afraid someone might not recognize the historical reference and think I meant it literally.
