Last year, the so-called Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 (Senate bill 1348) went down to a resounding defeat thanks to the vigilance of talk-radio and the blogs. John McCain was a leading voice in favor of passage in the Senate.
Since that defeat, John McCain has claimed that he has "gotten the message" that the country does not want the McCain version of "comprehensive reform" and he has avoided the issue in most campaign appearances.
But Juan McCain still lurks inside of John McCain. Read the rest at Publius' Forum.
McCain is right. The border does need to be secured first and despite all the hate directed at him Chertoff has done a good job in building the fence. There is a need for a temporary worker program. Not amnesty, but a temporary worker program.

Activist patriot Rosanna Pulido, who many of us know and love as ‘Chicagolady’ , being hispanic, was invited to one such event in Chicago this week. In an interview with AP, she states,
“He’s one John McCain in front of white Republicans. And he’s a different John McCain in front of Hispanics,” complained Rosanna Pulido, a Hispanic and conservative Republican who attended the meeting.......He’s having his private meetings to rally Hispanics and to tell them what they want to hear,” she said. “I’m outraged that he would reach out to me as a Hispanic but not as a conservative.”
Pulido, who heads the Illinois Minuteman Project, which advocates for restrictive immigration laws, said she thought McCain was “pandering to the crowd” by emphasizing immigration reform in his 15-minute speech.
The Article also states, “ After the event, McCain met privately with Martin Sandoval, an Illinois state senator and Democratic convention delegate for former candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. Sandoval said he left open the possibility of backing McCain, citing his immigration stance and pledge to keep business taxes low.”

How about paying a "living wage" first.
Thank-you Chicagolady!!!
“There is a need for a temporary worker program. Not amnesty, but a temporary worker program.”
How many? How many ‘temporary worker programs’ do we have now? Do you know? Do you know how many people we allow ‘legally’ into this country each year now?
“A Day in the Life of USCIS”- (Is this any way to protect our nation?)

Some of the DAILY work of USIS according to their own document:
* Conduct 135,000 national security background checks
* process 30,000 applications for immigrant benefits
* Issue 7,000 permanent resident cards ( Temporary workers! green cards -PER DAY)
* Welcome 2100 new citizens.
* Welcome 3500 new permanent residents.
Only if we(conservatives) let him... with Obama, we won't stand a chance. Remember... all those calls that overloaded Congress's phone lines(McCain/Kennedy Amnesty Bill) weren't just from us. A lot of RAT's and Independents chimed in as well.
McCain will never make a move to “secure the border first.” He is a liar on that one, for sure. All his actions prove it. His rhetoric is BS.
Amnesty IS the plan and always was. They are just waiting for a later date when they think they can force it through.
And I’m going to keep my promise to NOT support this sorry RINO turd, Juan McLame.
This is playing out like a cross between a MASH , Catch-22 and Sad Sack script when we need a Rambo, Mr. Smith and John Wayne one.
Here we go again...
McCain has been dragged kicking to make the statement ... "I will secure the border first because it is what the people want." It is not what he believes or wants! Pandering.
The general election in November has become no more than Democrat primary run-off between anti-war Democrat in Obama and pro-war Democrat in McCain.
McCain is right. The border does need to be secured first and despite all the hate directed at him Chertoff has done a good job in building the fence. There is a need for a temporary worker program. Not amnesty, but a temporary worker program.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
i second the motion.
But that's not what McCain wants. He wants amnesty.
Bull Butter.
“Juan McCain is gonna kill the GOP.”
Bush Sr - got the gun, Bush Jr. put the bullets in it, and McCain will definitely fire it. If we elect McCain the GOP will be destroyed for decades. He is not the lesser of two evils - he is evil plain and simple. He is far more dangerous than Obama for the simple reason that he will push the GOP to the far left.
The problem with a “Temporary Worker Program” is that it is permanent. This is not new. There is a Temporary Worker Program already on the books and has been for decades.
All this does is get them accross the border easier and cheaper, then when they find themselves in the middle of the continent, they simply disappear and hang out with friends or relatives already here. That’s why we have about 30 million of them here now and counting.
And, they will eventually be allowed to vote and some already do. (guess what party?)
