Now it begins.
The Senator from Illinois, Barack Obama, has begun his outreach to faith based voters. Dr. James Dobson, a respected voice within the evangelical protestant community and beyond, has engaged the debate.
The media is screaming Bible Wars.
What is this all about? What does it mean for Catholic Christians? How should we respond?
As someone who has had the privilege of meeting Dr Dobson, I have great respect for the wonderful work he is doing and has done for the poorest of the poor, children in the first home of the whole human race, their mothers womb. I consider him to be one of the great defenders of true marriage and the family founded upon it.
However, I am deeply concerned at the damage that this entire new front in the election of 2008 might cause if not properly approached.
Dr. Dobson, legitimately utilizing his radio pulpit, is raising some serious questions concerning the Democratic Presidential candidates efforts to garner the support of evangelical Protestants and other Christians. He is also no fan of the nominee of the other Party...

What kind of a fool asks such stupid questions?
As a confirmed Catholic and conventional American, I am with Dr. Dobson.
Obama is evil and hatred personified, and he represents a nasty perversion which threatens everything great about our Nation.
I miss the point of the article. He seems to be in full agreement with Dobson, but yet is critical of Dobson’s method. I am not sure what he thinks Dobson did wrong.
The same we always do. By kicking @ss in the marketplace of ideas.
Expose him for the pro abortion candidate he is. No real Catholic could possibly ever vote for a candidate who avocates allowing abortion survivors to die alone with no medical care knowing that that is his position.
Obama absolutely LOVES abortion. So, Deacon Fournier, forget about it. Real Evangelicals and real Catholics can agree that he is NOT a real Christian in any meaningful sense.
That is what Obama said in his speech that caused Dr. Dobson to react. If you listened to the pig bladders that pass for the press, you would think that Dobson's comments were gratuitous. I'd be annoyed if my name were used in the same sentence as Tawana Brawley good buddy Sharpton's.
I agree, but just how would you propose getting this info out the MSM wont do it?
Our Governor Sibileus has spread it far and wide that she’s
“in charge” of Obama’s Catholic outreach. Even though our Bishop has asked her not to take Communion and her political sponsor is a late-term abortionist. Maybe Obama just assigned her a little wedge of the nonpracticing pie to keep her busy.
Bump what you said... with you all the way....
"It is only by insisting and proposing once again that there is a Natural Law which can be known, and which ought to inform our own attempts at self governance that we can hope to build a truly just society."
This is a bizarre point of view to come from a religious author. How can one know Natural Law, except from an understanding of the scriptures? Without the scriptures, liberals will create their own version of Natural Law?
Obama's radical position on abortion anytime, anywhere and for any reason is all any Christian has to know.
WOW, that nails it!
I would love to see a list of all of the abortion bills he voted for along the way with dates included so a flyer could be made and put on the cars in the parking lot of mass! I could see a photo of him with an abortion quote from him with the list of bills he’s voted for.
Don't kid yourself. Do you want to know how many Obama bumper stickers there are in my parish's parking lot during any mass? Just go to any Catholic church on Sunday morning and count for yourself. I wish the American bishops had the moral courage of Dr. Dobson and would remind voters to examine the spiritual issues and vote accordingly.
I’ve also seen several OBAMA stickers at my Catholic church parking lot. I’m not sure what these “Catholics” are thinking.
