US Neocons Accused of Role in Irish 'No' Vote
spiegel.de ^ | 06/25/2008

The words were clear: "Europe has powerful enemies on the other side of the Atlantic, gifted with considerable financial means." The speaker was France's Europe Minister Jean-Pierre Jouyet, addressing a pro-European rally in Lyon at the weekend.

He was putting the blame for the Irish rejection of the Lisbon Treaty on some surprising shoulders: neoconservatives in the United States. "The role of the American neocons was very important in the victory of the 'no,'" he said. ...

One of the most powerful groups campaigning against the treaty was Libertas... There has been much speculation about where exactly the Libertas funding came from. The group's founder Declan Ganley is an Irish millionaire who is also CEO of Rivada Networks, a telecommunications company which has worked with the US military. The company's Web site says that it is a "leading designer, integrator and operator of public safety communications and information technology networks for homeland security forces and first responders."

A member of the center-right Fine Gael party, Lucinda Creighton, said before the referendum that the businesses of Ganley and Ulick McEvaddy, an aviation millionaire who was also involved in the "no" campaign, were "heavily dependent on contracts from the US State Department, the Pentagon and US government agencies." She went on to say: "These men are a lot less concerned about Irish sovereignty than they are about the potential hit to their own personal business interests." ...

Comments from a controversial former US diplomat before the referendum have added fuel to the conspiracy theory. John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, was in Dublin to deliver a speech on trans-Atlantic relations a week before the vote. He warned that the treaty could "undercut NATO," something that would be a "huge mistake."

If they only knew how weak we really were they wouldn’t suffer from these paranoid delusions.

Hint: John McCain.

Typical of antisemites they ask who funded their opposition first ~ before any other question.

NOTE: "Neocon" has become, in the mouths of leftwingtards everywhere, a codeword for "Jew".

What a crock! As I recall, the EU constitution (or the Treaty of Lisbon as it is now known) has been consistently rejected when it is voted on by the people. Sovereignty is a hard thing to give up, even for Europeans.

Well, for starters, the money the opponents had and spent was negligible. I was there when the campaigning was happening, and the only money visible was yes money from every establishment source in sight. This vote wasn’t won on the TV, or radio, or the BILLIONS of placards, it was won in the pubs and at the dinner tables and over the lunchboxes of Ireland. The truth is, the “yes” people had all the money, and the “no” people had all the arguments.

And by the way, the Irish are very friendly to Americans, but if you think they take their marching orders from anybody, think again!

GREAT country to visit; I can’t wait to go back.

The NeoCons I know would have been IN FAVOR of the EU vote, not against it. The Bush family is an example of what I think of as NeoCons - and they are globalists in a big way.

“Neocon” is becoming a catch-all boogey-man for every foiled leftwing fantasy.

Don’t let your feet hang over the bed while you’re sleeping - the neocons will grab them. Close the closet door before going to sleep - the neocons are hiding in there. Look inside the toilet bowl before you sit down - there might be little neocon hands reching out of there to get you.

So . . . now that the "Zionist neocons" are against a united Europe (and presumably a "one world government") is Pat going to change his position on those issues as well?

I took my son to Ireland last year.

All this chorus about how everybody hates America, or at least it's gorvernment? BULLSH*T! American flags flying everywhere. When they want to criticize politicians, without fail they criticize their own. And the country is intensely, painfully beautiful, with thousands of years of history all over the place, unspoiled.

But I'll never drive on those crazy roads again.

In some arguments it means Conservatism with a proactive foreign policy, but more and more it means Jews.

>>Lisbon Treaty result: Speech by Kathy Sinnott MEP made in the EU Parliament last week

I came across two major sentiments while I was canvassing in Ireland. The first was a general feeling that decision making was being further removed from citizens in favour of a distant bureaucracy.
This unease was increased by the easy dismissal of the French and Dutch NO which spoke to them of a lack of democracy.
The second but more deeply held sentiment was that there was a loss of values, more accurately that they were changing into new values. Ireland which traditionally had prided itself on its Christian values was finding itself becoming a materialistic nation.
There has been a great deal of disparagement of my country since Friday it is as if you think that we have insulted you in some way. What actually happened was that Ireland decisively said No thank you to the Lisbon treaty and its direction in a democratic referendum.
If your response to the democratic will of the people is outrage then there is something very wrong. Make no mistake, Ireland, like myself, is pro-European. We believe as obviously you do not, that the project has lost its way. It has lost sight of the one thing it needs most, democracy, and forgot the only people who matter, its citizens.
So before you condemn Ireland and try to bypass our democratic decision, ask yourselves two questions.
One; Do any of you truly believe that this treaty would survive referendums in the other 26 countries? Two; Is threatening a country for being democratic an action of democracy?<<

I guess it’s clear the Irish can’t think for themselves and only the French or Germans can do it for them.
