St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's officials say over $150,000 in weapons has been seized from a Slidell home.
Investigators say they learned of the massive weapons cache after a man called them to report over $70,000 in weapons was stolen from his home. That prompted authorities to secure a search warrant for the home, which turned up some 50 additional weapons, ranging from semi-automatic pistols to a .50 caliber semi-automatic bolt action sniper rifle.
"When the deputies responded to take the burglarly report, they became suspicious at how he was reporting the crime," said St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain. "As they began to investigate, they noticed the obvious, like the .50 caliber machine gun."
In addition to finding the weapons, investigators also found pictures of two young children posing with the guns. Investigators say the children, ages 1 and 9, lived at the home.
Well, so much for the 2nd Amendment.
Notwithstanding the laws of Louisiana, exactly what part of the weapons described in this article are illegal?
“a .50 caliber semi-automatic bolt action sniper rifle.”
Huh?
ping
Does this cop not know the difference between a bolt action rifle and a “machine gun”?
Did this gunowner actually break any laws, or is the victim of a huge theft being portrayed as a criminal by the cops?
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot???
“A .50 caliber semi-automatic bolt-action sniper rifle”???
Where do these idiots come up with this nonsense?
Guy must be psychic.
HAHAHAHA..weeze...snicker.
Aside from the fully automatic one why are they seizing anything else. Also it does not say whether or not the guy had a FFL license.
where do they get off seizing semi-auto handguns and I assume revolvers.
Exactly why I keep some of my stuff off-site.
This is all I know. I just saw it on the WWL website. Perhaps some Louisiana FReepers who live in the area could contact the sheriff or DA and see what the charges are or what authority they used to seize the man’s property.
At least he didn’t say 50mm sniper rifle. Also any rifle can be a sniper rifle, the term is meaningless.
two young children posing with the guns.
Were they naked were the pics perverse?
No
Whats the point
Lousiana. Scene of police confiscations of firearms from residents during Katrina. I'll give you one guess.
Then, one paragraph later, it appears they called very same gun a 50 caliber machine gun.
I guess after that some editor stepped in, before this ignoramus of a writer called it "a 50 caliber 1 megaton thermo-nuclear, matter/anti-matter bomb".
You can have more than $150K tied up in just one pistol, if it’s collectable enough. What does the monetary amount have to do with anything?
“As they began to investigate, they noticed the obvious, like the .50 caliber machine gun.”
Is this the same one as the “.50 caliber semi-automatic bolt action sniper rifle” or perhaps a different weapon? I’m surprised the media beast did not throw in “Saturday-night-special assault weapon.”
The writer notably fails to tell us what law was violated, but goes out of his way to imply that this is all illegal somehow. The worst is the invited inference that there is something illegal implied in the pictures of the children.
semi-automatic bolt-actions are extremely rare!!!!! I’ve only heard of someones exwife’s mother in law ever even seeing one!
They make it up as always. Why do you ask?
