Neither do motorists.

99% of motorists stop for red lights.

If the opposite were the case it would mean that every time you're driving and reach a red light, every driver on the road around you will completely blow through it.

And I too, have been riding for years and see both sides.

Road rage is just that, people who can’t control themselves in a tight situation... (and yes, I sometimes will say smart assed things at people and they way they drive, and more than ONCE I’ve told a biker that he needs to be on the OTHER side of the road instead of coming at me on MY side when I’m in a car OR ANOTHER BIKE.)

I’m a little bit paranoid over the wrong-side-of-the-road thing. I had a kid about 10 years ago, coming on the WRONG side of the road from traffic coming towards me on a blind turn once. I couldn’t see him for the weeds on the corner. I had the right of way to make my right turn and he came out of nowhere and almost hit my car. He didn’t have a helmet on, was about 11 years old and got the full wrath of my fury for that.

I heard from his parents later who scream at me for yelling at their kid.

I told them to “Sue me” and I filed a police report and had the little boy cited for driving on the wrong side of the road at that point.

He got the message. I never saw him riding on the wrong side of the road again. I never got sued and to my knowledge the kid is still alive today (and about 21 or 22 now).

There is no “right and wrong” here about bikes. Unless you’re in a car and you’re trying to hit them, scare them, come very close to them, etc. If they are running lights, they should be CALLED IN same as you would anyone else.

I’ll bet the stupid driver was at fault and came close to clipping the bicyclist

Well, I agree. If he’d had thrown something at me, it wouldn’t have been an easy ticket for him (or probably me either)... someone would have been tasered. LOL

One bicyclist pursued the motorist and got her to stop a few blocks away, the report states.

The bicyclist threw the bottle, which went through a window and struck the woman.

Stupid cyclist is lucky to be alive. One power window button push and said cyclist is facing down against 3000 pounds of steel and plastic and has damn near ZERO chance of escape.

Really smart.

No, that’s not true at all. IGNORANT bicycle drives don’t follow the rules. The MAJORITY do.

I strongly disagree with your comment. The MAJORITY of bicyclists disobey the traffic rules. I lived in Colorado for many years near the Univ of CO and I know this to be a fact.

I’ll be happy to share the road with them when they have to meet the same rules and restrictions as motorcyclists and cars. Namely, pass a test, get a license, license the bicycle, and carry insurance.

They are greenee’s

What evidence do you have to support that assertion?

and the reason fuel is so high.

People not burning gas are driving up the price for people that are. Brilliant.

So... why are you riding that slowly, again?

I strongly disagree with yours. I’ve lived here almost twenty years and yes there are those who occasionally do run lights. The majority IN MY AREA do not.

Now if you lived in Denver or Boulder area.. well, then you’re correct, because I was in Boulder a few weeks back to visit a Meadery (place that makes honey wine) and I couldn’t BELIEVE the idiots on bikes I saw.

lol

I didn’t say that my statement applies to everyone, every where, just where I live.

Oh, and they are still IGNORANT bike drivers if they don’t follow the rules.

Bikes are NOT to ride on sidewalks, those are for pedestrians.

But the problem around the Dallas area, based on my experience, is that most bikers do not share your view. Their take is not only may they ride on the sidewalk, everyone else occupies it at their pleasure. They are the rudest people I've ever encountered round here. I've had my run-ins with them tho none have ever seen fit to throw anything at me. So occasionally they do exhibit good judgment...

It probably is, but it isn't what most of us have felt like who've had the misfortune to be delayed, annoyed, hampered, insulted, and a host of other actions by bicycle riders (I won't call them 'cyclists because I think being called bicycle riders pisses them off and equates them to what most are - children).

Avid bicycle riders of the vocal and 'it's my right' type assume the best of both worlds - legitimacy on the roads like a 2 ton vehicle, and the protection and rights of pedestrians ---WHEN IT DAMN WELL SUITS THEM. How many times have you had to pass some fool in sissy pants and an Aliens helmet weaving in your lane 10-15MPH slower than traffic finally have gotten by only to see the ahole catch up with you at a light and 'become a pedestrian ' and restart the whole process by coasting or walking through the light?

here is a four way stop at the corner by my house, and several times this spring/summer I have nearly run over a cyclist who made 0 attempt to stop for the sign.

I call BS. How could you nearly run anybody over if you yourself came to a full stop, like any 4 way stop would require? Were you there first? Then you couldn't run over them. You would be moving very slowly in the intersection and they could possibly hit you from the side. Unlikely. Were they there first? Then no matter whether they stopped or not, they would be through the intersection before you could legally enter it. Are you sure what we're dealing with here is some sort of inadequacy issue on your part?

I don’t understand the “cut him off” that the woman is supposed to have done. Did she pass him because he was going slower than she was and when she got back on the right side of the road, that was “cutting him off”?

Or how about if the laws in all 50 states and every country in world say you have to? Is that good enough for you?

I have lived in many rural areas where cycling is very popular. I say, good for the cyclists. It is a great way to enjoy the outside and to get some low-impact exercise. But, I am always amazed at how many cyclists feel compelled to ride smack-dab on the white shoulder line. WTH? Does the road paint improve the ride so much?
