"Go preach it to those Christian scientists who work on evolution."

Fantasy land is fun, huh?

Nobody works on evolution, although many work at imagining evolution. Some even imagine themselves 'christian' with a little more stretching.

Is your cognition really so limited that you fail to see that over 90% of the gravitational forces experienced by the earth come from the massive object we like to call Mr. Sun?

What is moving the Sun around the Earth while leaving the Earth motionless? Please show me the math where any object outside our solar system exhibits enough force to influence the earths movement around the sun.

Here is a little help. It is the equation for gravity.

Gravitational Force (Newtons) = (G *m1 * m2)/d^2 where G is the gravitational constant, m1 is mass one, m2 is mass two, and d is distance.

Now please show me where enough force is generated by any planetary or celestial body upon the earth to counteract the observed and calculated force that the Sun exerts upon the Earth. Should be easy enough, after all you claim to have Einstein on your side!

Nobody works on evolution? I guess this is all their imagination! And now I am not Christian? I suppose neither is the Pope or any other Catholic who accepts biological evolution?

I don't think I needed you to define a strawman for me, seeing how I provided a definition. I wanted you to explain how atheists put forth a strawman of evolution, according to your post.

Or did you mean ‘Trojan horse’ after all?

Then where does your Bible tell us would be a good place for long term storage of nuclear waste?

I give up. Where does your bible say we should put nuclear waste?

I helped build a nuclear power plant at Southport, NC. I made much of the concrete for it, literally, as a batchman and quality control tech. I toured the GE Nuclear Fuels plant at Castle Hayne, with my Boy scout Troop, and handled uranium pellets, briefy. I saw them assembled into rods. The guys seemed to know how to handle the stuff pretty well. One of them was a deacon in our church and helped arrange it.

When the Enterprise came to Gitmo for her shakedown cruise in the 60's, I went on board for the day. My dad was with Fleet Training Group legal. I got to see firsthand, that nuclear power was good. But, we didn't talk about waste disposal.

So, if evolution is fact, it really won't matter where we bury the waste. We can use all the nukes and throw the waste where we want. Something better will adapt, right?

"Do you contend that Einstein, Infield, Born or Ellis are geocentrists?"

That probably depends on your chosen definition of geocentrist. Each of them has declared that the geocentric view is the most useful view to the earth-bound scientist.

"Do you contend that they believe that the stars are holes poked in a box?"

No, only you are childish and foolish enough to come up with that sort of unproductive illustration.

Laughable. Newtonian physics is the most useful view/model for calculating orbits, impact, velocity, etc. This in no way makes users of Newtonian physics deniers of Relativity.

Einstein KNEW the Earth moved. Every Scientist of the last few centuries knows that the earth moves. Only those who reject Science for an egotistical and human-centric view that is not even supported by the Bible think that the Earth is motionless.

Still waiting to see your math work on how any object exerts a strong enough force on the Sun to make it circle the Earth. Should be easy enough if you have Einstein in your corner.

Fallacy Friday: Straw Man
Stop putting words into my mouth!
One way of making your own arguments stronger is to anticipate and respond in advance to the arguments that your opponent might make. That’s all well and good, but when you misrepresent a position in order to make it appear weaker than it actually is, then refute this misrepresentation of the position, and conclude that the real position has been refuted, you’ve committed this friday’s fallacy: a straw man fallacy.

It’s memorable name vividly illustrates the nature of the misconception. Imagine a fight in which one of the combatants sets up a man of straw, attacks it, then proclaims victory. The straw man won’t fight back and it’s easy to destroy.

You need to focus your arguments against the actual argument your opponent makes, rather than refuting a caricatured or extreme version of it.

Here’s an example of this fallacy of ambiguity during a debate on evolution:
1) “Evolution is false! How could a fish evolve into a hippopotamus!?”
2) “There would have to be billions of changes for that to occur, and
nobody has ever seen speciation anyway!”
3) “So it’s silly...who has ever seen a fish evolve into a
hippopotamus? Nobody!”
4) “Therefore, evolution must be false!”

1) The straw man is built. Some straw man arguments end here, but let’s go on.
2) The straw man is “knocked down” by any means necessary, pretending that the straw man is the real argument and not the ridiculous caricature created with deliberate ignorance and made-up facts.
3) The original position is connected with the straw man. The arguer is attempting to equate the outlandish claims of his straw man with the original position’s claims. This makes the defeat of the straw man seem more victorious.
4) The opposition’s argument is claimed to be refuted. Problem is, it missed the point by missing the facts.

Just the Facts, Ma’am
It’s easy for the perpetrator to knock down their own straw man because they built it themselves; it’s a tailor-made position for the person using it. They’ll easily destroy its distorted facts soon after it is created.

This subtle tactic can actually fool those who aren’t looking close enough. To counter a straw man argument, simply point out the facts. You can point out to them that they just knocked down their own caricature of the argument, not the facts that support the argument. A real counter-position to the above would cite the facts to support the position of evolution.

So instead of being lazy or ignorant, argue with facts and not cowardly accusations. Stick to the point!

In debate, a straw man can be used strategically without creating a fallacy. If the straw man is not too different from the arguments your opponent has actually made, a carefully constructed straw man might entice an unsuspecting opponent into defending a silly argument that he would not have tried to defend otherwise.

But most of the time, it just ends up being a fallacy — especially in a small town.

"Einstein KNEW the Earth moved."

Einstein's first premise in GR is that there is no observable evidence on Earth that proves that it moves. (or had you forgotten that?)

God’s way is to use the brain HE gave you.

What in the Bible do you suppose supports/demands a earth centric universe?

Is someone less of a Christian in your eyes if they think that the earth circles the Sun?

Still waiting for your calculations on how any object can exert enough force on the Sun to move it around the earth, or how this force changes in a 24 hour/ 365 day cycle. Will you make me wait forever?

Perhaps your geocentric model is lacking in logic, math, observations, or measurement.

I’m not a creationist. I think the concept of evolution is viable and believable.

I know. I was responding generally, not to you personally. BTW, here's the text of the bill, (now law):

AN ACT

To enact R.S. 17:285.1, relative to curriculum and instruction; to provide relative to the teaching of scientific subjects in public elementary and secondary schools; to promote students' critical thinking skills and open discussion of scientific theories; to provide relative to support and guidance for teachers; to provide relative to textbooks and instructional materials; to provide for rules and regulations; to provide for effectiveness; and to provide for related matters.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:

Section 1. R.S. 17:285.1 is hereby enacted to read as follows:

§285.1. Science education; development of critical thinking skills
A. This Section shall be known and may be cited as the "Louisiana Science Education Act."

B.(1) The State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, upon request of a city, parish, or other local public school board, shall allow and assist teachers, principals, and other school administrators to create and foster an environment within public elementary and secondary schools that promotes critical thinking skills, logical analysis, and open and objective discussion of scientific theories being studied including, but not limited to, evolution, the origins of life, global warming, and human cloning.

(2) Such assistance shall include support and guidance for teachers regarding effective ways to help students understand, analyze, critique, and objectively review scientific theories being studied, including those enumerated in Paragraph (1) of this Subsection.

C. A teacher shall teach the material presented in the standard textbook supplied by the school system and thereafter may use supplemental textbooks and other instructional materials to help students understand, analyze, critique, and review scientific theories in an objective manner, as permitted by the city, parish, or other local public school board unless otherwise prohibited by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

D. This Section shall not be construed to promote any religious doctrine, promote discrimination for or against a particular set of religious beliefs, or promote discrimination for or against religion or nonreligion.

E. The State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and each city, parish, or other local public school board shall adopt and promulgate the rules and regulations necessary to implement the provisions of this Section prior to the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year.

Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on the day following such approval.

Looking through the Hubble telescope shows that the earth moves.

You've rejected Einstein, Hoyle, Born, Ellis, and Humphries; Would you accept the same from me?

Obviously you're not exactly a great intellect, but you could try to understand what truly great minds have presented. It's not my model, it's theirs.
