Obama/McCain promise to pass Immigration reform in first 100 days.
El Diario La Prensa NY ^ | 6-29-2008 | NESTOR IKEDA

Posted on 06/29/2008 6:38:42 PM PDT by Cacique

Sometime this afternoon I went to my local bodega to get something to drink. The headline in the local New York Spanish paper caught my eye. Ni Cien Días (Not even 100 days). I picked up the copy of the paper and read the accompanying article.

According to the article, which I cannot post here even in translation as it is a spanish feed from an AP reporter cited above both McCain and Obama addressed the National Association of Latin Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO). In their addresses both pledged to the exclusively Hispanic audience that they will initiate immigration reform in less than 100 days should either of the candidates win the presidency. McCain added that “It will be my top priority -- yesterday, today and tomorrow,” he also stated that he was aware that some in his party were opposed to "reform" and "We must prove to them that we can and will secure our borders first," McCain said, "while respecting the dignity and rights of citizens and legal residents of the United States." He stated in all seriousness that "I want to resolve the problem, because we can be both a nation of laws and of immigrants"...."but, we must also approve a program of temporary workers that is verifiable and temporary. We must at the same time understand that there are 12 million people who are here illegaly and that they are the children of God...and they must be treated in a humane way."

The gist of the article is that both Obama and McCain are pandering for the Hispanic vote which at the moment is almost as solidly in the obama camp as the black vote. Those of you who can read spanish can peruse the it here

What is reported in El Diario appears not to have appeared anywhere in the Anglo press not even in the English language feed of the AP. You would think they were trying to avoid making immigration an issue in this campaign, except among Hispanics, of course.

"...we must also approve a program of temporary workers that is verifiable and temporary. We must at the same time understand that there are 12 million people who are here illegaly and that they are the children of God...and they must be treated in a humane way."

Temporary...like the telephone excise tax to fund the Spanish American War and was finally repealed over a century later, though only limited refunds were given. And by "humane" Mr. McCain means the right to vote, affirmative action, government handouts like never before, and only God knows what else.

In other words: total amnesty.

Now, if the Democrats control Congress, and Mr. McCain is president, then guess who gets the blame for amnesty: Mr. McCain and the GOP!

McCain: “I can pander for the Hispanic vote better than you can.”
Obama: “No you can't.”
McCain: “I can pander in Spanish.”
Obama: “Damn!”

Sellouts. We continue to pay the price for the 1986 amnesty. Before that, the illegal alien lobby did not have near the political muscle that it has right now.

that they are the children of God

I despise that line almost as much as...it’s for the children.
They are both dishonest and used to stop debate.

And Americans need "immigration reform" because....?

I'd like to see something done about the gas and diesel prices first. Or don't these two slugs consider that important?

Nope. No can do. “Comprehensive” is missing from the text.

We Americans need broad, generalized words that are meaningless. That way we are easier to snooker.

The other day, heard McCain use comprehensive in reference his energy plan. You’d think that comprehensive would be a worn out word. Maybe he thought that we wouldn’t notice. :)

*Congress can pass bills....or not, as the case may be.*

This was also in U.S. papers but also stated as MCcain has repeated, he will enforce security at the border.

We have a better chance helping move the bill to more what we want as we did months ago than if Obama gets in.

Living in San Diego not a fan of the illegals and all the damage and dirt they do but will vote for McCain as Obama is not an option.

This issue alone is incentive enough to get as many conservative voters to the polls as truly possible on November 4 in order to vote for all anti-amnesty politicians at every level on November 4! A truly anti-amnesty majority in the next Congress as well as beyond the next Congress can succeed in stopping amnesty for illegal immigrants from happening!

Republicans must do a better job in the primaries. We should never have been put into a situation where we have McCain. McCain’s positions including: grandstanding on torture, the gang of 14, and amnesty are reprehensible. However, B Hussein Obama is for everything I don’t like about McCain and is even worse as he is an abortion lover, against all drilling, and is soft on Jihad.
