Today marks the second day of Obamas Enduring American Values week. Todays topic: faith.
The Illinois senator will unveil its plan to overhaul the Bush Administrations Faith-Based and Community Initiatives by helping religious organizations better learn how to apply for federal aid with a Train the Trainers program, and focusing the groups to provide summer learning programs to children.
Obamas plan will not scrap the current program, the campaign says, but will fix it. President Bush came into office with a promise to rally the armies of compassion, establishing a new Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. But what we saw instead was that the Office never fulfilled its promise, Obama will say today in Zanesville, Ohio.
The $500 million a year program, the campaign says, will level the playing field for religious groups and federal funds cannot be used to proselytize or provide religious sectarian instruction.
The proposal drew praise from President Bushs one-time director of Faith Based and Community Initiatives office, John Dilulio. In a statement distributed by the Obama campaign, Dilulio said, His plan reminds me of much that was best in both then Vice President Al Gores and then Texas Governor George W. Bushs respective first speeches on the subject in 1999.

You know, faith based groups like East Side Community Ministry carry a particular meaning for me. Because in a way, theyre what led me into public service. It was a Catholic group called The Campaign for Human Development that helped fund the work I did many years ago in Chicago to help lift up neighborhoods that were devastated by the closure of a local steel plant.

We see through his hypocrisy, but most of America will eat it up. Neither the MSM nor McCain will call him on it.
I'll be surprised if he doesn't make a jump in the polls in the next couple of weeks.
wouldn’t it be nice if someone compared obama’s positions/past/experience with W’s? they’re sounding more and more alike with each passing day.
Evangelical does not automatically equal conservative. Just look at Huckabee for example. There is a major segment of the “social conservative” group that loves big government as long as that big government is doing “Christian” things.
Perhaps Al-Queada can get a grant to help make their bombs.............
I can’t wait to hear the backlash from liberals since they all railed against W’s faith-base initiatives. What’s that chirping noise?

Looks like Rush nailed it. He was just talking about this and said it was all about expanding govt power. This will be the camel’s nose under the tent.
Excellent point....spot on!
She does look more like James Brown than Jackie Kennedy.
B. Hussein is for it before he will be against it. I can’t express how much I despise that evil lying POS.
I’d like to see a campaign listing all of obama’s statements that sound like W’s, and asking “what change?”
Look at her picture - notice the ear rings. Is it USSR sickle and hammer? HUH ?
When Obama talks about faith, it`s all I can do to not barf.
That chirping you hear is the Obamazombie masses chanting “yes master, we can”.
There are millions of evangelicals who are fiscal liberals.
They don't label themselves as such but when they hear "the Gov't wants to give money to the suffering and underprivileged" they wrongly believe that message to be christian compassion.
These evangelicals are not smart people. They are led by a bleeding heart, not their head.
This is a back door to make Christian groups hire Openly Gay people.
