The murders have been greeted by some in France as proof of London's spiral into lawlessness.
Readers of the country's national newspapers yesterday expressed their horror at the news in online blogs.
On the Liberation website, 'Hom' wrote: 'These things happen all the time in London, I lived there and "le stabbing" is the fashion.'
'Condor' said: 'I lived in London for a very long time, I prefer to live in Paris because the English are not very welcoming. When night falls, the skinheads go looking for a fight with foreigners.'
And 'TEK' asks: 'Can we still accept sending our children to study in the jungles on our doorstep? Because London is a jungle.'
In Le Figaro, an anonymous blogger writes: 'In the United Kingdom, urban violence is at a very high level.
'Gangs kill each other with knives over territories, but the English media doesn't talk about it because these outbreaks of violence are occurring daily so it is no longer shocking.'
Another calls London 'the city of blades' and says that violence in the streets happens 'all the time'.
Reader 'Le Hardi' wrote: 'London throws its mentally ill out of hospitals and on to the streets, according to the English newspapers. I, myself, escaped a similar violent attack in England, ten years ago.'
The rising number of violent attacks in Britain, and particularly in London, does not receive much general coverage in France, but certain incidents are highlighted.
The savage murder of young Ben Kinsella, who was killed aged only 16 by being stabbed numerous times in London last week, received coverage to varying degrees in the French press and...

I will offer this analysis...based on a recent trip to Munich, Germany.
Unlike a couple of European cities I’ve been to in the past decade where drug use is readily tolerated and street crime is accepted to some degree...I found Munich to be totally different. There is absolutely no element of drug use on the streets of Munich. You don’t find any petty crime. You don’t see homeless people there in the middle of town. You don’t have any fear of walking downtown. There are few cities left in Europe that I can readily compare to this. The city of Munich refuses to let drugs dictate the spiral which you see in London and Paris.
I spent a weekend in London about five years ago. I saw at least five people over that week who’d been robbed on the street. The five were all tourists. You read weekly now via the London papers of homes being burgled and cars being stolen. Once they accepted the drug use....then drug users went to the next step....gotta have money to buy the drugs. So the decline of London and the major cities of Europe is underway. The cops....frankly just don’t want the job of cleaning up the mess. They hate drug crimes and would prefer to just walk away.
So I would suggest to all of those who want a good safe summer vacation....have a shot at Munich and feel good that the cops there won’t accept a second-rate status for the city.
Prepare to be flamed by the pro-drug libertarians on this forum.
Do you have an example or two of things the Munich police do , that our police do not do ?
From my observations of Munich and listening to the local chatter there....I get the impression that if cops come upon some drugged out individual on the street...he gets arrested and taken downtown...and the DA apparently takes the time to put them into the local jail (which mandates drug treatement). As you travel around London, Amsterdam, and Paris...you will notice a various environments where free needles are handled out or half-way houses where guys just hang out...you don’t see that downtown in Munich. I get the impression that the locals just won’t accept that logic that the closer to downtown is better for this crowd. As for the drugged out crowd who simply stands around or sits on public benches...you just don’t see that in Munich either...so I’m assuming the cops are coming along to move these guys along and motion them to regions outside of town.
You have the same issue in New York City where they allowed drug and crime spirals to occur in the 1970s/1980s...and then you found massive murder statistics that worried the public. Until the New York cops got tough and spread their guys along the street level...nothing was getting better. If you look at NY City murder and crime stat’s over the past five years...things are finally getting better. The cops there have a fairly aggressive attitude about pro-drug crimes.
I haven’t said that Munich is totally crime-free....but compared to London...its a heck of a lot safer. The extent of this attack on the two French guys....is going to become a major issue for the political figures to explain to the public. I’ll bet within a week that drug crime cops are going to find reinforcements, and guys would just get a warning to move along...will find themselves in some detention center. The Brits tend to over-fix any problem...and this might be a pretty drastic period.
I have been to Munich a number of times over the last ten years. I have found it to be safe, pleasant, and almost completely crime and disfunction free. My observation is that this is so because 1) Germans in Munich are hard working, responsible and law-abiding, and 2) there are very few non-Germans living in Munich.
I guess the House of Commons will have to take up blade control legislation. Sarc.
I know this is very serious, but damn if “City of Blades” isn’t a cool name.
At least no one was shot by an evil firearm. At least there's that.
They seized guns from the law-abiding populace but failed to do anything about the lack of moral principles that accounts for the violent crime.
