Today President Bush met with his economic team at the Department of Energy to discuss the need for domestic oil exploration. The President urged the Democrats in Congress to act on this before they leave town next month for another vacation. (Transcript)
One way to deal with supply problems is to increase supply here in America
vast potential of crude oil reserves on offshore lands, as well as in Alaska, as well as in the oil shale in the western part of our country. And yet the Democratic leaders of Congress have consistently blocked opening up these lands for exploration
They have a responsibility to explain to their constituents why we should not be drilling for more oil here in America to take the pressure off of gasoline prices.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with Pakistani Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the State Department in Washington.
President & Mrs. Bush traveled to Camp David this afternoon where they will stay this weekend.

Quote of the Day:
President Bush: You know, these members of Congress, particularly the Democratic leadership, must address this issue before they go home for this upcoming August break. They have a responsibility to explain to their constituents why we should not be drilling for more oil here in America to take the pressure off of gasoline prices.

President George W. Bush sits with members of his economic team Friday, July 11, 2008, during a meeting at the U.S. Department of Energy. From left are: Secretary Dirk Kempthorne of the Department of the Interior; Secretary Samuel Bodman of the Department of Energy; Secretary Henry Paulson of the Department of Treasury; President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary Mary Peters of the Department of Transportation, and Secretary Edward Schafer of the Department of Agriculture

President Bush: I want to thank the members of my economic team for assembling here at the Department of Energy
First of all, Secretary Paulson came by this morning to brief me on the financial markets. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are very important institutions. You spent a fair amount of time discussing these institutions. He assured me that he and Ben Bernanke will be working this issue very hard.
[Secretary Paulson] informs us that 112 million stimulus payments have gone out, and I congratulate you and your department for doing your job. We've so far spent about $91 billion in tax relief, which has had a positive effect on retail sales.
The problem, of course, is that gasoline prices are up, which has affected the people here in our country.

President George W. Bush, with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, speaks during a meeting with members of his economic team at the Department of Energy in Washington July 11, 2008.

With Vice President Dick Cheney

President Bush: One of the main reasons why gasoline prices are up is because crude oil prices are up. And one reason crude oil prices are up is because demand is outstripping supply. And therefore, what can we do about it? And that ought to be the question the United States Congress asks.

Got my blood tests results today. My folic acid is 2.9 which is low and the ferritin in the bone marrow is 22 which is also very low. He said it was no wonder I had been feeling so awful and he gave me 2 drugs to take which should help but my B12 was very low, too. Daughter has had trouble with that for years and she said I was going to have to start giving me injections. It is odd, my daughter who died in 2004 had trouble, the other daughter has trouble and now I do. I wonder if that is hereditary. He said I should start feeling better in a month.

President George W. Bush meets with members of his Economic Team to look for ways to lessen the impact of high gasoline and energy prices on American consumers and businesses at the United States Department of Energy in Washington, DC on Friday, July 11, 2008.

President Bush: Technology has changed dramatically to enable the exploitation of oil in a way that protects the environment. You know, these members of Congress, particularly the Democratic leadership, must address this issue before they go home for this upcoming August break. They have a responsibility to explain to their constituents why we should not be drilling for more oil here in America to take the pressure off of gasoline prices.
I want to thank you all very much for your briefing. These are tough economic times for the American citizens. There is a way forward to help relieve some of the pressure on their pocketbooks. And I'm looking forward to seeing -- watching this Congress respond in a positive way.
Thank you.

Not sure what the price is today but about 3 weeks ago it was 1.18 pounds sterling per litre. There are approximately 4 litres to American gallon or 4 and half to the British gallon so that is approximately 9.50 dollars to the US gallon.

The price of petrol is a real killer and diesel is more expensive which in a way is even more serious because most goods are transported with vehicles using diesel and transport costs are going through the roof with many freight companies imposing 10 or 20 per cent fuel surcharges.
There are also many areas in Britain where to work and live a modern life a car is also necessity as public transport is often non existent to small villages and towns. Consequently many local villagers especially youngsters have to move to nearest large town where property is cheaper and then they can afford to run a car which at least allows them to keep in touch with their home town. The villages and small towns on the other hand are getting populated with the wealthy older town-folk who do not understand locals and local customs. A sad reality of modern life.

I hope the B12 works for you. My sister ended up having B12 injections when she was pregant, because she was sick all the time, and just wasn’t getting any nutrition! I’m thinking I might try some B12 for our daughter, so seems to be just sluggish a lot. Maybe it will help her be more constructive in her college work.

I like the shoes she’s wearing in these photos. They look “sensible” for walking across grass. Many times I’ve seen her wearing heels, and I don’t know how she does it. I would be bogged down so tight, they’d have to get a crane to lift me out.
