Targeted Marketing [Petraeus MoveOn.org]

As you no doubt know, the Senate last week voted to confirm Gen. David Petraeus -- slandered less than a year ago by MoveOn.org as "Gen. Betray Us" -- by a 95 to 2 vote. Which two senators voted against Petraeus, despite his historic achievement: dramatically changing U.S. military strategy in Iraq and turning what looked to be America's defeat at the hands of al-Qaeda and Iran's proxies into a clear success?

The answer (drum roll please): Senator Tom Harkin (D., Iowa) and Senator Robert Byrd (D., W.V.) voted against him.

Interesting, don't you think, that both Harkin and Byrd neglect to note this vote on their official web sites (which are here and here)?

But you can bet MoveOn.org knows who their friends are.

In Byrd’s defense he did say that his no vote was because he wanted Petraeus to stay in his current role and finish the job in Iraq.

Harkin is just a fool.

Actually, Byrd is "just a fool" as well -- and probably well into the middle stages of Alzheimer's..

Lt. Gen. Odierno, Peterus's long time second in command in Iraq will be taking over, and Peterus will become his boss. Though it's not a done deal, Iraq is going well enough to allow the best mind in counterinsurgency to move to where he is most valuable -- and still in control of Iraq -- commanding the entire Mid East theater under CENCOM and — in particular — Afghanistan, where is the situation is back sliding and needs far greater attention than it gets now.

Anyone have the total list?

Just curious if perhaps Barack ("Peace Be Upon His Middle No Name") Obama was one the 3 who didn't vote?

That Byrd-brained logic makes no sense. But, then again, it's a Democrat we're talking about.

Middle Stages? I think not. He probably just pressed the wrong button.
