Border Fence Creates Mixed Feelings
Fox News ^ | 7/14/2008 | staff

“All the illegal border crossings are down. It looks like the border patrol is doing their job. There’s really no need for a wall like that,” said Mark Abeyta from east El Paso.

The El Paso sector has reported that they have apprehended 25,500 illegal border crossers during the first nine months of this fiscal year. This is the lowest since 2000, and it was made possible because of more barriers, increased agents and the zero-tolerance policies.

Currently the Department of Homeland Security has completed around 300 miles of pedestrian and vehicle fencing and they expect to have a total of 670 miles of fencing by the end of this year.

Good news: fence

Bad news: if you make it, Juan or Barack will give you citizenship and welfare

"Border Fence Creates Mixed Feelings

Gee, what a shame!

I was hoping it would actually create a "barrier" to keep the illegal trespassers out of the US not just mixed feelings.

Go figure..

I suspect that new work visa plan in McCain’s 2009 bag of tricks, will take care of that.

It will all be legal from then on out. The border will be under control, and 2.0 million legal workers will enter every year, year after year after year after year...

There, all better...

Can they read English? No. Can they speak English? No. Can they write English? No. Do they have a high school education? No. Can they support themselves? No.

Gack!

“..There’s really no need for a wall like that..”

This is typical Dimocrat dull thinking. If the government invests the money to build a structure that’s difficult to get under/over/around, fewer people will try to get past it so the number of guards can be reduced thus saving operating costs. Note that the sunk cost has already been invested.

Beyond that, Pedro may try it, but with a good fence, he’ll leave Maria and his 3, 4, 5 or 10 kids behind because they can’t all get across and he can’t get an anchor baby born while he’s in the U.S. He’ll go BACK to his family.

A flimsy fence or no fence ensures that lots of guards are needed on an ongoing basis, thus requiring a continuing investment of money by the U.S. and plenty of political capital for Nancy Pelosi and her fellow thugocrats.

As much as we all desire border security, a "fence" or "wall" may solve some problems but create others.

Any barrier MUST accomodate migrating species.

If we could just get rid of unions, wages and standards of living would fall sufficiently to be on par with worldwide standards that nowbody'd concieve of invading or migrating to this region. It'd be interesting to know that if the U.S.A. standard of living was as low as Mexico, what care (or concern) would Canada have for the migrating elk/caribou?

If the standard of living was sufficiently low enooug, then nobody would want to emigrate to here.

I dunno. I don't believe the U.S.A. has begun exporting its greatest product: the environmental, labor activist, lawyer, et ali.

Once the U.S.A. begins doing that in earnest, you'll see the tables change. What is needed are Rachel Corrie environmental & labor lawyers. 'Till then, its all a pipe dream.

All the illegal border crossings are down.

Then where did these illegals come from?

The El Paso sector has reported that they have apprehended 25,500 illegal border crossers during the first nine months of this fiscal year.

Every illegal apprehended on this side of the border costs time and money not to mention the potential dager to Border Patrol personnel. That is one reason why a fence makes good sense.

Stop the trouble on the Mexican side and we won't have Border agents being shot at and court rooms clogged with illegals and lawyers trying to game the system.

Kinda makes me proud. It just shows that we still have what it takes. Eight years after JFK announced the goal we put a man on the Moon. Eight years into this administration and we have 670 miles of fence.

We won WWII in less that 4 years, across the ocean, yet we can’t build a fence and it will take 10 years to get oil to the market. Amazing lies.

That’s the politician’s job. To lie to us about how they simply can’t do something they don’t want to do because it’s just too hard. It’s just too hard to build a fence. It’s A Job Americans Won’t Do Anymore.

Finish the fence.

A fence has nothing to do with border crossings being down.

The U.S. economy is growing at about 1%.

The Mexican economy is booming at 13-14%.

There are more jobs in Mexico and the peso is up compared to the dollar.

‘Nuff said.

The fence, all 2000 miles of it (or whatever the mileage is from the Pacific to the mouth of the Rio Grande), should have been a national security priority right after 9/11 and finished a long time ago.

Jorge won’t finish it, we know that. Juan and snobama-messiah are falling all over themselves to outpander each other with La Raza. Maybe in four years from now, when the USA has turned into a real third world hellhole, maybe an American will be a candidate and will stop the rot. Like a bumper sticker I’ve seen online says - “We’re Screwed ‘08”

I've always been for the fence -- no one in unless they have a legal invitation. And I still am for it.

But someone said something a few days ago that gave me pause --

"Any fence strong enough to keep them out, could also be used to keep us in."

Now there's a bone-chilling thought!

..I have mixed feelings too--a mixture of happiness and excitement

It's not Duncan Hunter's 850 miles, but I didn't think they would even get this much--oh wait, it's election year...
