Central Texas woman gives birth at 59
The Waco Tribune-Herald | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 | David C. Doolittle

Posted on 07/16/2008 1:56:57 PM PDT by LA Woman3

When 59-year-old Round Rock grandmother Linda Smith couldn’t shake jet lag after a December trip to Europe, she figured she was going through menopause. It turned out she was pregnant.

“It was a big shock,” Smith said Tuesday, a day after giving birth to a 5-pound, 11-ounce boy named Django. “My husband was jumping up and down for joy, and I was just dumbfounded.”

Linda and Steve Smith’s first son died in a motorcycle accident in December 2005 at the age of 20.

“Some people might think we’re trying to replace him but we’re not,” Linda Smith said. “We’re trying to replace the holes in our heart.”

“We had all this love to give to somebody or something,” Steve Smith, also 59, added as he held Django in their north Round Rock home. “We’ll give it to him.”

Linda also has two children, ages 35 and 32, from a previous marriage, and Steve has a daughter from a previous marriage, who is 34. Between them they have four grandchildren, ages 17 months to 11 years old.

Just the fact that she hadn’t gone through menopause yet was pretty amazing.

Yup, now there will be two men in the house when she does go thru menopause. All feel-good stories don't always end en feel-goodism.

More specifically ... if conservatives don’t produce babies then they don’t get the government they want.

It’s a numbers game!

Demographics is destiny.

Django Reinhardt. Gypsy guitarist at the Hot Club in Paris. One of the true greats:

Check out the stuff he cut with violinist Stefanie Grappelli sometime. ;-)

See #16 and #24. Methinks the kid was named after one of the greatest guitarists ever to grace the clubs of Paris.

They are confused. “Django” is “I awake” in the ROMA language of the gypsies, NOT Romanian. Two unrelated languages.

“So she’s saying this is a natural pregnancy? “

I thought she was saying it was fertility treatments with “We’re trying to replace the holes in our heart.” I hope you’re right.

Thinking about this makes me very tired. But I thank God this woman didn’t get an abortion.

Is Gypsy guitar the same as Flamenco?

Congratulations to her and her family - may they find the joy that comes from serendipitous love...

Why did I think you’d show up in this thread ? Django’s a nice name (I especially like the first two letters of the name ;-)). World has enough Bobs and Mohammads... :-P

Anthony is only in about third place. I think Anthony should be bumped up.

Then again, I’m biased.
