Central Texas woman gives birth at 59
The Waco Tribune-Herald | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 | David C. Doolittle

Posted on 07/16/2008 1:56:57 PM PDT by LA Woman3

When 59-year-old Round Rock grandmother Linda Smith couldn’t shake jet lag after a December trip to Europe, she figured she was going through menopause. It turned out she was pregnant.

“It was a big shock,” Smith said Tuesday, a day after giving birth to a 5-pound, 11-ounce boy named Django. “My husband was jumping up and down for joy, and I was just dumbfounded.”

Linda and Steve Smith’s first son died in a motorcycle accident in December 2005 at the age of 20.

“Some people might think we’re trying to replace him but we’re not,” Linda Smith said. “We’re trying to replace the holes in our heart.”

“We had all this love to give to somebody or something,” Steve Smith, also 59, added as he held Django in their north Round Rock home. “We’ll give it to him.”

Linda also has two children, ages 35 and 32, from a previous marriage, and Steve has a daughter from a previous marriage, who is 34. Between them they have four grandchildren, ages 17 months to 11 years old.

I have calmed down a bit, just a bit.

I am sorry for my curse words. What you got from me is my from the hip temper.

I don’t try to make enemies here, unless I am responding to a lib.

You owe me an apology.

I am going to walk away from this now and go play with my dog.

Have a nice day....

The article doesn’t say whether or not she had “special medical help” but barring a miracle that’s what it would take. She certainly looks post-menopausal, and says in the article that during the pregnancy she felt 20 years younger. Sounds like special medical help to me! :)
Regardless...good on them.
Django means “I waken.”

It’ll be very tough to raise a teen in your mid 70s. Very very tough. That takes a lot of energy.

Django Reinhardt gets my vote. Betcha they’re fans.

I’m in the minority here, obviously, but I think it’s kinda cool... ;-)

Django was of Roma/Gypsy ethnicity (born in Belgium, where he lost fingers when a local mob set his family’s camp on fire), but he became famous playing jazz.
