Last innings for Yankee Stadium
'The House That Ruth Built,' closing at the end of the season, hosts the All-Star Game on Tuesday. By Ron Scherer | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
from the July 14, 2008 edition
Reporter Ron Scherer remembers some big moments at Yankee Stadium.New York - When the players take the diamond for baseball's 79th All-Star Game on Tuesday, the talk is more likely to be about the venue Yankee Stadium than the game itself.

Wed - crash in a hotel (or somewhere provided by a FReeper?)

Thurs eve - 7:05 PM flight home
Gee, perhaps I shouldn't have given Hillary my itinerary.
Seeing a game in Yankee Stadium is on my ‘list’ too!
And the clock is ticking...
If we can get a freep going, I’ll have no excuse!
Thanks for checking in. This is an expensive proposition, but it has to be done.
even though myself and pharmboy are dedicated mets fans, i thought i’d ping him to this. i live in manhattan. let me know if this trip works out and i’ll try to help out. least i can do when a freeper legend rolls into town.
I never got to Yankee Stadium but I finally took Shea
off my list last year. (Are they blowing it up? If so
Red Sox fans like myself would probably watch and cheer...)

I am actually taking clients to the Yankee game that Saturday night...
I’ve seen games in only four parks. I have to also get to Wrigley.
The entire season is sold out, so you’ll have to find tickets on the secondary market.
A wednesday day game should be possible to get tickets for, but you might want to start posting “tickets wanted” posts on like stubhub and craigslist in the NYC/NJ areas NOW, so you can get the tickets.
Thanks for the tip.

I just came back from a trip to NYC to see a game at Yankee Stadium last month, so I’ll give a few pointers.
1. Get your tickets at StubHub. The regular season is completely sold out (even nosebleed seats at day games), but StubHub isn’t too bad pricewise.
2. Don’t stay near the airports. I stayed near LaGuardia, and lost almost two hours in travel time on the subways going up to the stadium.
3. Get a Metropass. I stayed for a week to do some other sightseeing with my family, and for $25 each we could ride all the subways & buses for a week.
4. Get to the game early. The monument park closes 1 hour before game time, so be ready and at the gate two hours before the first pitch.
5. Don’t bring a backpack. Backpacks are forbidden, even if you have kids/toddlers. I had to check mine at a bowling alley across the street for $5.
6. Don’t be in a hurry to leave. You know those 50,000 fans at the game? They are all trying to take the #4 subway train back home. Hang out after the game and catch dinner, bowl a few games, or just walk around (if it’s a day game).
