BERLIN (Reuters) - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki told a German magazine he supported prospective U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's proposal that U.S. troops should leave Iraq within 16 months.

In an interview with Der Spiegel released on Saturday, Maliki said he wanted U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq as soon as possible.

"U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months. That, we think, would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes."

"If this is a true quote, then I suspect most highly that Marxist Obama's operatives got to him."

I get the feeling that Maliki and George Soros are soon to be golfing buddies.

Here's the full interview and on the second page Maliki does throw Bush under the bus.

"Thanx so much for the link."

You're welcome. I had to go find it, to see it, to believe it with my own eyes. I am speechless that Maliki would basically endorse Obama after all of the hard work of the Bush Administration. Just speechless...

No matter who says what at this point in time, there will still be at least 60,000 troops for at least the next 10 years.

but each day that goes by gives him confidence in the idea that Iraq is self sufficient.

Well, it's his neck hanging out there and not mine, so if that's what he sees, I hope he's right.

However, my point is thatthose who relied on the AP spent at least 2 days discussing and worrying over something he never said. For some time, the media dismissed Maliki as a non-entity. Now they hang on his ever "translated" word when they can spin it as supporting the position of the Obamasiah. I'm going to hold fire for now.

SPIEGEL: In your opinion, which factor has contributed most to bringing calm to the situation in the country?

Maliki: There are many factors, but I see them in the following order. First, there is the political rapprochement we have managed to achieve in central Iraq. This has enabled us, above all, to pull the plug on al-Qaida. Second, there is the progress being made by our security forces. Third, there is the deep sense of abhorrence with which the population has reacted to the atrocities of al-Qaida and the militias. Finally, of course, there is the economic recovery.

Hmmm . . haven’t you left something out, Mr. Maliki?

Like the U.S. Army?

Perhaps George Bush has indeed been played for a fool?

With oil selling at $140 a barrel, perhaps President Bush could ask Iraq for some foreign aid?

DO not fall for TWO FAR LEFT propaganda outlets that intentionally TWIST and DISTORT this PM words so it will help OBama . These are radical leftists that Lie and Hide and Distort everything in order to help a fellow Marxist named Obama . We are witnessing the largest OBama Propaganda campaign waged world wide by radical left wing press since the Nazi era. Weeks later the Iraqi PM will demand an apology and it will ignored !

If Obama (god forbid) wins the presidency, it’s only a matter of time before Maliki is thrown under the bus...

Der Spiegel is a respected newsmagazine, and they have published the interview in full. If anything, the questions come from a pro-American perspective. The answers are not.

By the way, I heard with my own ears Maliki say he supports Hezbollah, in its fight against Israel.

If they want us out we should get out. The GOP has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on this one. Amazing they actually provide Obama with an advantage on this issue. Sad.

“U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama is right when he talks about 16 months,” al-Maliki told Der Spiegel. He said he wants U.S. troops to leave “as soon as possible.”

From all I can tell is that this was a loaded question. Maliki was generally speaking about a timeline when it came to Obama’s “16 months” but qualified it by stating “as soon as possible”.

agree. And now influencing the US election away from the party that rescued them.

We may have given them freedom at great cost of blood and treasure but they will never be our allies.

Maliki did not say this. It was a mistranslation and the filthy commies have continued to lie about it.

This is a long set a sentences by Maliki. It's not a single statement taken out of context or mistranslated.

Maliki: As soon as possible, as far as we're concerned. U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months. That, we think, would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes.

SPIEGEL: Is this an endorsement for the US presidential election in November? Does Obama, who has no military background, ultimately have a better understanding of Iraq than war hero John McCain?

Maliki: Those who operate on the premise of short time periods in Iraq today are being more realistic. Artificially prolonging the tenure of US troops in Iraq would cause problems. Of course, this is by no means an election endorsement. Who they choose as their president is the Americans' business. But it's the business of Iraqis to say what they want. And that's where the people and the government are in general agreement: The tenure of the coalition troops in Iraq should be limited.

“If they want us out we should get out. “

Why? We’ve sunk our blood and treasure in Iraq, and we should not let it be wasted because some pro Iranian stooge whose tenure is uncertain wants us out. This is not just about Iraq. We went in for US, to stop terror. That’s our goal, not the vacillating wind(bags) blowing from Iraq.
