Der Spiegel was notorious for publishing parts of the FAKE Hitler Diaries in the 80s.
This guy perhaps has an ambivalent feelings toward the issue. As an Iraqi Muslim, he’d prefer the US to leave as soon as possible. As somebody who has tasted power and thinks strategically, he knows that at least for a short to intermediate period of time, without the US military his country would turn into chaos in a minute and he will not hold any important position any more.
I stand self-corrected, it was “Der Stern”. Interesting article here.

As a poster above stated, it was to help Obama.
Nailed it!
Coinkidink that it happened as Obama is set to visit Germany. German papers were also floating the idea of Obama speaking at Brandenburg Gate like JFK and Kennedy... which Merkel quickly dismissed as silly.
Even putting the translation by Der Spiegel aside, we are fooling ourselves if we think that Maliki didn’t know that this would help Obama and hurt McCain.
Just as Maliki has publicly supported the Hezbollah group, I am sure he also would prefer to see Obama elected President.
Ping!
Drudge has become little more than an unethical stooge for Barack Obama.
Exactly. It made a good story, so they ran with it.
Why should we take political advice from Germany? We fought in two World Wars for which the German government bears responsibility, and then we had to rescue them from Stalin. And they tell us how to run our country. People came to the U.S. to get out of Germany.
Germany has nothing to do with it. I think it was cause half by Maliki and half by Der Spiegel magazine.
That was expected from the liberal media.
and will this get the play that the lie got? Not holding my breath.
He's made a real friend of al-Maliki, hasn't he. The very first contact and he manipulates his words...not to mention how he slammed Kazai before he went to the ‘ghan.
Yep. Diplomacy. uh huh...God help us/U.S.
I think you have a lot of company - maybe he needs a Freeping...
/...
He needs a good slap down.
warn Freepers that, on this election, Drudge is not a reliable source for news...?

I gave up on Drudge years ago when he went into Brittney mode.
Yep. Slap him down.
