Presidential hopefuls John McCain and Barack Obama will speak Aug. 16 at Saddleback Church in what is expected to be the only joint campaign event for the candidates before the national conventions.
The Lake Forest megachurchs pastor, Rick Warren, will moderate the joint appearance, which will take place on the eve of the two national party conventions. After a brief appearance together, the two candidates will separately spend an hour talking with Warren.

Also, Please contact the church at 949-609-800 or email info@saddleback.net and let them know - nicely- that people of faith are also concerned about illegal immigration, the impact of the Narco Culture of drugs and death on our children, and about Ramos and Compean, two wrongly convicted Christian Border Patrol agents about who the Church has been silent too long.
Thank You!

Candidates have no business being in churches speaking about anything; it leaves the church open to the IRS or any other petty organization with an ax to grind.
Most likely this is the only place that The Obamination would agree to meet around McCain — where he feels safe from exposing and revealing questions that would easily put him in McCain’s shadow.
Yes, Hussein Obama needs the sanctuary of a church....
As an evangelical, let me state that NEITHER candidate should give Rick Warren the time of day.
As a non-evangelical, I completely concur!
Nice PR stunt. I am going to vote for the next person regardless of party who tells the Rick Warren and Oprah Winfreys of this world to stick their New Age crap up their butts.
I’d prefer someone who would tell or show them the error of their ways, but I understand the sentiment...
I believe, with our freedom of speech, any politician can address any church group he or she likes, and say anything.
The church, however, can not endorse a candidate.
The church CAN endorse a position - pro-life, or against the death penalty, or for medical marijuana, liberal or conservative, the church can take a position on any moral issue without fear of losing its tax-exempt status.
IMHO Rick Warren runs a profit center that he calls a church.
and no church should invite politicians to speak from the pulpit....Jesus cleaned the temple out and believers should be sending the same message to the local church where they belong.
NO politicians at ANY churches, thankyouverymuch!
I’ll second that.
